XP: Attire for bride's best man??

We have a teeny, tiny weeding party -- a single attendant on each side. My best man is my son, who is 18.

All three gentlemen will wear 2-button, black tuxedos. FI and his best man will wear black vests and and black ties (long, not bow). My question is this, should my best man be a carbon copy of the other men or is it okay (and tasteful) to mix it up a bit? For instance, my best man in a black bow tie instead of a long tie or in a paisley black vest instead of solid ...

Hmm... in my own humble opinion, I think it looks best if all the guys (regardless of what side they stand on) are wearing the same type of tie. For example, if one guy is wearing a bowtie, the others should be wearing bowties. Same thing with long ties, if one is wearing a long tie, then they all should be. But there's nothing saying that they have to wear the same colour or patterned ties. My FI is wearing an ivory silk tie, his groomsmen are wearing red silk ties, and I decided to have my best friend Ian stand on my side instead of FI's, I don't care if his family thinks it's weird or not. I figured I was just gonna have Ian wear the same tie as the rest of the guys as groomsmen, but that was also before we made this decision. We might just go with it though. :) Good luck!

Honey....you have a best man on the bride's side, and you're worried about traditions....???

Heh. I think he should wear a kilt, actually. Ok, no.

I just realized when I was best woman at my gay male friend's ceremony nobody specified anything about what I was to wear. And I don't remember now what it even was....Must find photos.

But I see no reason for cloning here. I'm not much of a traditionalist though.

I like the alternate vest better than the alternate tie, but I think that whatever makes your boat float is fine.  I think something different would be appropriate.  ~Donna

That's sounding cool.  He'll be home shortly -- last day of teaching Sunday school (threw that in for you, "recovering Catholic") -- we'll get it worked out, I'm sure.  I just saw the print out of what FI is wearing ... he's going to be SO gorgeous!!!

49 days to go .. WOO HOO!!

You're son can wear what mom thinks looks best, he doesn't have to match the groom's side.  My DSD work navy blue but a short dress and it was all her choice. She stood with her Dad.
