In love with polar opposite dresses :(

So, I went dress shopping today and completely fell in love with not one dress, but TWO!!

They are complete opposites of each other.

The first is a Casablanca dress. It was very romantic and elegant:

The second was a Maggie dress. It was something that I never would have picked out for myself, but I fell in love with it too. It's ankle/ballet length. (Something I never thought I wanted). But, it's completely whimiscal and when I tried in on with bright pink satin pumps and a birdcage veil I thought I might pee myself from the excitement.

Now, what to do? I'm going to look at another bridal shop in town to be sure, but I love both of them so much. I felt so beautiful in the first one, but the second one was so much fun! Has anyone else run across this problem of loving 2 dresses?

I found 2 that I loved, but one was double the budget, so that settled that.  I love the one I picked out and the ladies at the salon were very helpful in making the alterations I needed to get it looking like the dress I envisioned

I also fell in love with two dresses that were complete opposites and one of them was a style of dress I siad from the very beginning I did not want.  I ended up picking that dress go figure :)  I couldn't make up my mind so I chose the one I could see myself wearing on the beach and it was less expensive.  I still wish I could wear two dresses but am happy with my choiceLaughing.

I fell in love with two.  One was a lace mermaid, and I originally wanted lace.  The second was a ball gown, which I did not want.  I put on shoes, walked around a lot, but still coudn't pick.  The lady spent hours with me.  We started to switch me in and out of the two, quickly, so that I could see one right after the other.  Eventually I went with the ball gown!  I'm taking out some of the tulle to make it more A-line, but still... I think about the other dress from time to time, but I know I picked the right one.

Picking the dress also really helped to set the tone for the rest of our wedding.  I didn't realize what a key piece it would be.  Ultimately it combined elegance and fun, which has kind of become the "theme" of our wedding.  Early in the dress search, I had tried on a dress and David's Bridal that was big and had pockets and I loved it, but I couldn't get over the feel of the fabric.  So the dress I ending up picking has pockets, which gives that fun/playful feeling, but it's a shiny fabric with a little more "bling" than the David's Bridal gown had which makes it feel elegant.

So, if you think about what you want for the feel of your wedding, it might help you to pick a dress (since the two you are looking at have such different feels - both very pretty!).

One other thought: are you getting married on the beach?  I love the second dress, but it seems to be shorter.  So would you be able to wear the satin heels for the entire night?

I agree with your dress playing into the tone/theme for your wedding.  The first dress to me says romantic and elegant and the second one says lighthearted and fun.  I'd think about your accessories, how you want to wear your hair, etc. and then decide which dress will set the mood for your wedding day.  Also think about your ceremony set up and reception decor to help you picture the tone of your wedding and compare that to the feelings you get from your dress.  I personally think the first one is gorgeous, but if you're going for a whimsical feel on your wedding day I'd probably go with the second.

Also as you try on other dresses at the other salon, pay attention to which dress you're comparing them to the most. That's how I ultimately decided.  It was like every dress was competing against the one I picked for our wedding.

Oh gosh, YES. I just went dress shopping in DC for the first time yesterday with my maid of honor (who is also getting married a month before me and I'm her maid of honor!) We both found two dresses we love (actually, she found 3) and it's just one more thing to stress over now, lol. From these two dresses, I adore dress number 2, and the length and billowyness seems PERFECT for the beach! You get all the fun of a dress like that without falling all over yourself in the sand. Dress 1 is gorgeous but it feels a little more formal. I guess it all depends on the style and feel of your wedding, but number 2 screams beachy fun to me! Did you happen to sneak photos in both of them?

I was really torn between 2 dresses too.  My sister said I kept talking about one all the time, so that's the one I went with.  I LOVE the second dress.  I was a Maggie bride too.

Ok so I wanted to response w/out reading other responses soooo:

sleep on it!  thats what you do :)  I was also torn between 2 dresses as well and I slept on it for a couple of weeks and everytime I thought about my gown, dress #1 is the one that kep standing out at me.  Picking your dress is a big big decision, so do not rush this.  Make sure that you are absolutely in love with your dress before saying "yes"

Just sleep on it for a few days/weeks and it WILL come to you....promise, promise!

I was torn for you at first too- we have similar tastes.  I love the first one because it's beautiful, elegant and SEXY, buuuuut I vote the 2nd one because like you said, it just made (even me) feel HAPPY and smile and I can totally picture you having so much FUN in that one- especially because it fits your theme to a "T"!!!
