Rings - Again!

We've had a lot of posts lately on rings so I figured I'd throw this one out there. Does anyone have more of a band - like an anniversary ring instead of a solitaire or raised setting of some kind? (I'm sure there's a term for "raised setting" but I'm not sure what it is. You know what I mean though.)

It might be too late for me - bf might already have the ring - but I'm wondering if a solitaire will catch on things.

I have a solitaire with 6 prongs as opposed to 4. I like the look and it secures the diamond more. I was a little concerned about it catching on things but I really haven't had any issues with that.

I think mine is actually in the "anniversary" section at the store.  It's a three-stone and it's raised with 3 small diamonds inlaid on either side.  The matching band (that is OMG gorgeous!) is just a white-gold band with inlaid diamonds.

I was so worried about mine catching but it's not raised that much and I actually haven't had it catch on anything yet.  (FYI I wear it ALL the time.  The only time it's off is when I'm showing/swimming)

I have a ring with diamond chips in a bezel setting.  It catches on a lot of things, and you never would think that it would by looking at it.

But  just take it off when I'm putting on fragile things, and its usually okay.

I have a trellis setting.  You can get them pretty much anywhere, I think, in both solitaire and three-stone versions.  I like it because it sits much lower than most solitaire settings, like cathedrals, but the sides and bottom are open so it still lets all of the light in.  I don't have any problems with it catching on things and it never breaks through my lab gloves or anything like that.

My engagement ring has high set center stone and 5 diamonds on either side.  Then my wedding band has 11 diamonds.  I do not catch my e-ring on anything.  I am also not worried about it scratching Mr. Man.  It is solidly in there.  We got my ring from Memoire.  The side diamonds are petite prong set.  I really loved the look of pave set sidestones but I had heard of issues with their durability.  The petite prongs allow a lot of light to pass through while still being secure.  I tried to get DH to just go for two bands.  He is much more traditional than I am, so this was our compromise.

I have one center stone, which is in some sort of cathedral/ trellis hybrid setting. I don't catch it on anything, but it's too big and spins a lot. Once we get married, I will likely wear just my band and get a thicker right hand ring to wear with the band. I'm boring.

Ohhhh!! You think he has the ring? ::taps fingers excitedly::

Thanks gals! Hetshup I'm not sure. It wouldn't surprise me one bit if he has it already. He's pretty sneaky. He definitely won't tip off one of my friends or anything. He'll be VERY quiet about it. And I do expect it to be a totally bizarre moment - mowing the lawn, eating pizza on a random night, some "normal" moment. Works for me though!

I love 'everyday' proposals.  I cannot wait to hear how he actually does it.  What if he goes all romantic and big with it?  Haha.

Maybe I'm partial since mine was an "every day proposal" but I think they are the best too :)

Oh, and my ering does catch on everything - I would have been perfectly happy with just some sort of band; but I'm glad I didn't have to go "ring shopping" or have anything to do with the choosing of it.  It makes it even more special to me knowing he did it all on his own without me ever even knowing.

I totally agree - I'd love to have an 'every day proposal' and have made sure he knows I don't expect a dog-and-pony show, and just want it to be personal and preferably private (no renting a billboard or on the jumbotron at a sports game for me!).

One of the ring stores we went to actually handed him a little book of proposal ideas - we spent hours at dinner reading them outloud and laughing.  One suggestion was that the guy ask the girl to meet him at a park, where he rents a full suit of armor and a horse and goes riding up to where she's waiting for him.  We had images of the "knight in shining armor" falling off the horse, passing out from the heat of the metal, getting kicked in the nuts by the horse...  SO many ways for that to go wrong!

It's so exciting to be on this board and never know which one of us is next!!!  Although I'm now highly suspicious that mine will come in October... we shall see!
