Dress Alterations

So I purchased my dress from House of Brides sort of last minute, and it will be coming in about 2-3 weeks before the wedding.  They quote about 350 for alterations, and they told me it might be a little less since my dress doesn't have much structure to it.  I haven't really looked into other alterations businesses because I don't even use tailors.  Is this price about normal or does anyone have any recommendations for another alterations business that might be cheaper?

When I was dress shopping HOB of Orland quoted me a flat rate of $275 for any alterations being done, even if that just meant a hem or straps.  I thought that was a little high.

If you don't need a lot done it might be high, but other wise it is reasonable/a good price. I heard the Stich Fairy in Naperville was really good. I used Sarah Cilberto and she was awesome, mine was more than that though (I needed a lot done)

My friend had hers done at HOB and they messed it up and she didn't get her dress till a few days before her wedding.

Eva's Bridal in Oak Lawn quoted me $300.  I went with Cori of Stitch of Bliss. She came to my house, delivered my dress to my house and she did the following for $175:
-changed my dress from straps to strapless and sqweetheart
    -bustle
-put cups and extra boning in my dress
    -hemmed and steamed

The only downside is that she is difficult to get ahold of. I almost gave up, but she does fantastic work and is very nice.

I also think that price may be a little high. Maybe try more independent alterationists.

At Bella Bianca they said their average bride spends about $500. GIgi's Closette quoted me another $900 including extra fabric. I think if you go somewhere were they give you a flat alterations rate then you may be loosing money if you aren't altering much. Weddings 826 also does alterations and they have a price list so you can easily get an accurate estimate. Good luck!

The owner at Taylor Wilson Style is amazing with alternations, and will work with your budget. She will come to your house if you want and do the alternations on site : )
