centerpiece and decor help PIP

This is my current centerpiece (this is a pic from the florist of exactly what it will look like)
as of now I wont be doing the mirror underneath, I was looking to do a picture frame... see below...

To cut costs and also be a little creative, I was interested in doing half the tables with the flower centerpieces and half with something else.
My colors are gold pink and ivory.  12 tables total.

I am going for an elegant vintage feel.  I like the idea of using pink and gold old books to tie into the centerpiece somehow....but im not really sure how to go about creating a centerpiece myself since I havent found a pic of anything that I LOVE. I like the idea of the birdcage... but what do i put inside? i think it would look silly empty. I also like the gold candelabras
help!

Do I do pink or gold tablecloths?  napkins to match tablecloth or is the napkin a different color?
I'm so not good at this....

thanks!!!!

Re: centerpiece and decor help PIP

  • I think you could get away with ivory table cloths.  It goes with your color scheme and it would save you money.  If you really want a pop of color you could do a runner or an overlay.  If the vase of you centerpiece is gold, I would probably go with a very pale pink table cloth.  That way the golds wont clash and overpower the table.  The napkins can be the opposite of whichever you choose to go with.

Check out pinterest for centerpieces.  I'd be happy to look for you when I get home tonight.  :)

You could do candles, something like this:

Maybe sit it on a larger old book instead of a mirror to tie the two in?
  • Also, you could incorporate lace into the table, since you have lace on your dress.  Everything would be cohesive, if you like the look of lace on tables.
  • I like the candle in the birdcage that was posted.  As far as color of table linens, I think ivory would be nice, and maybe pink or gold napkins for contrast.

  • I agree with PPs.  I think ivory would work best for the table cloths.  If you're having a gold vase with pink flowers you don't want to over do either color and the ivory would allow the centerpieces to pop. Napkins could be in either gold or pink or you could mix them up and do some of each.
As far as the books, you could pile them at different heights with pretty gold or brass candle holders and ivory candles on top of the piles at different heights to add visual interest.  I also love the picture that Britt posted with the candle inside of the birdcage.
There is also the lantern option which is what FI and I are doing for our cocktail tables, I'm putting a little fake moss in the bottom of the lantern with a small pillar candle inside.  I'm not sure if it's going to be a fire candle or an led, that depends on what the church will allow since they are also going to be the pew decorations.

  • If you're looking to save money, I'd stick with the ivory tablecloths/linens and use colour in the centrepieces. I'm not sure how pricey the birdcage would be but they could be more than your floral arrangement (they are super cute tho!).
Maybe vintage tea cups or pots that you could find at a second hand store? use candles in them maybe? Or add strings of pink/ivory pearls on the cups? I like the book idea too; you could combine that with the cups.

Okay so i will do the books at different heights with the teacups/tea pot on top of the stack with votives.  I love it!

Okay, Ivory table cloths it is.... I think I want to do pink napkins.... id love to do gold chargers, but I dont want to spend the money on them...I think I may want to do a runner.... we will see if I find anything that fits.

  • I'd say look into using books.  i've seen a lot of people doing that...that would give it a "vintagy" feel and I can't imagine old books would be expensive.

  • I would do pale champagne table cloths with pale pink napkins and gold-ish antique looking candle holders. OR buy lace and wrap it around the bottom of vases and do a floating candle. I do also like the birdcage but spraypainted

  • I like the picture frame idea much more than the mirror!

I think pink or champagne or ivory linnens would be just fine, which ever you like the look of the best and can afford.  I think the napkins could be plain white/ivory and be fine.

For a second centerpiece you could do floating candles and rose petals, that would be lovely and low cost.
