XP - Tips on Writing Vows

We want to write our vows. I don't know where to start! I feel so bad/dumb because I've been with FI for so long, so I should know exactly what to say, right?!?! I'm so stumped.

I just need some guidelines/suggestions for how to start, and what sorts of things to consider putting in my vows. I'm sure once I find a starting point, everything else will all fall into place. I think my vows are the most important part of everything, so I just want to get it right.

TIA!

Re: XP - Tips on Writing Vows

  • I completely understand! I had the same problem. What I did was google traditional vows and I heard someone say to watch romantic movies you like to get the creative juices flowing :D
  • Well FI and I chose not to write our own vows, but we were considering it for a bit.  Here is a website that I found helpful:

Also, the biggest thing that bugs me when people write their own vows is when they leave out the actual vow part.  A vow is a promise.  So I don't like it when people's vows are just, "I love you because you are so smart/loving/dedicated/whatever."  It is fine to include that, but also make sure you include the actual vow - what you promise to do.  Good luck!  I'm sure they will turn out great!

  • I did a few sentences about why I love FI, a few sentences about us as a couple, and then what I promise to do (actual vows). I got some inspiration from the knot (under wedding ideas tab then ceremony and vow ideas) and from googling wedding vows. Good luck!
