looking for and cannot find a registry that ships internationally

I am living in Germany and getting married in Italy. I have guests attending from different countries and trying desperately to find an international wedding registry that I can sign up for that will ship my goods to my address in Germany. I emailed Crate and Barrel and they wrote back saying they dont offer this service right now but in the future they hope to. I have made a website through the knot and ideally I would like to post an international registry that is in english and has things I like (the german selection can be very boring and outdated!) please help! I also thought about the idea of having one of those honeymoon registries where people can contribute but cant fathom the idea of having to pay 9% to someone to collect money for me online! If anyone has any suggestions that could help me with my registry I would be really grateful.
Thanks!
Katerina

Re: looking for and cannot find a registry that ships internationally

  • We got married in the US, but live in Italy (I can't imagine getting married here!  The laws are nuts! lol) and we actually have a mail service through our bank.  All of our registry items were shipped to them, and then they shipped them to us.

What might be best, is if you are able to have your registry gifts sent to a family members house (or if you're able to create something like we have) and then ship them to Germany via Fedex, which is the best service we've found for shipping internationally.  It's expensive, but if you're determined to get your gifts overseas, that's probably the best option.  Honestly, we had things that we really wanted on the registry, but everyone gave us cash.  It was kind of disappointing.

Anyway, don't set up the honeymoon fund.  If people are going to give you cash, I'd rather that no one gets a cut of that.  Just be prepared to not get actual gifts as much as you will cash.
  • I understand your frustration. I am living and getting married in Italy but all my family is in the U.S.   When my sister-in-law through us a couples shower this past winter, we were desperately searching for some sort of registry.. with no luck. In the end, she just asked for money. A few of my family members were kind of bothered by it at first but after I explained shipping, electrical differences, and everything else, they were more than happy to just give money. We set up a seperate account at our bank for them to deposit or transfer money into, and when we got back to Rome, me and the fiance went shopping for kitchen gear, took pictures of everything, and then sent a mass email to everyone. (I guess a backwards registry, haha) They loved it.  We plan on doing the same for the wedding and everyone is on board with the idea.

P.S. Let me know if you find somewhere that will ship for less than the cost of the item :)
  • You could register in Germany and guests could ship gifts there if they choose.  Check around and see if there are any stores that will let your guests in other countries purchase.

Otherwise, people will probably give small gifts or cash since you're not getting married in the country where you live.  So you could skip registering, or just do a small registry and spread the word that you are also saving for your honeymoon.  While many people are okay with honeymoon registries, many others have strong feelings against them for various reasons, that 9% charge being one of them.
