Religious Retreat

Has anyone here ever gone on a weeklong religious retreat?  Its something ive been thinking about doing, if i can find one (even if its just a long weekend).  My mom did one years ago and got a lot out of it, and it also included at the end the making of a LIfe's Confession.

I haven't, but H's aunt does at least one per year, and she loves it.  She learns a lot (I think her last retreat covered a lot of the OT that most Christians are less familiar with) and feels more spiritually in tune.  H and I were  invited to weekend retreats before we moved, we'll have to see what's available locally.

I am not sure if they are in your area, but if you could go to a Miles Christi retreat they are really awesome. I think you would like them because they are a very solid religious order that is very "traditionally-minded." Their priests give lots of retreats, including the spiritual exercises based on St. Ignatius (a silent retreat that can be 3 or 4 days, although the original is 30 days!) which is what I went on. At the end, if you want, you get to make a general confession, which is what it sounded like your mom did.  http://www.mileschristi.org/

I've never done a week long retreat, but I have done weekend retreats in the past and highly recommend for anyone to do one. You definately become more in tune with everything and leave feeling spiritually remenwed, no matter what type /theme retreat it is. I've also done week long service trips, which is a week of community service, mixed with a bit of spiritual retreat flair...and all of these trips have been amazing, and some of the best experiences of my life! Both emotionally and spiritually rewarding!

I've been to a couple of retreats and they are such a great experience.  All the ones I went to were catholic and they included confession.  It is such a great opportunity and I would recommend it to anyone :o)

I haven't done one.  Have you looked through your Archdiocese?  I know Chicago's Archdiocese has a lot through our Family Ministries.  H and I are trying to do a 6 month weekend workshop/retreat and there are a ton of options for us to even browse through on the Chicago Archdiocese Family Ministries website.

I went on Retreat my senior year in high school.  BIG mistake, most teenagers don't have the full understanding of the purpose.  We spent most of the time finding secluded areas to smoke & drink beer.  (yes, I was a horrible teenager)

But to be totally honest, the priest running the retreat was a bit of a perv.  He'd get into very detailed sexual conversations about what French kissing was meant to be and we were all totally skeeved by him!

My church offers weekend retreats a bit upstate. If I'm walking well enough, I plan on doing one late Fall.

When DD is older I may do one.  There's an island off the coast here that focuses on Catholic meetings and retreats and my parish is involved in an annual one for women in the fall.    At this point though, I'm reluctant to be away from DH and Chiquita for two nights.
