Intro/Meeting With Preacher

Hi! I'm new here. My fiancé and I are getting married 5-18-13 and slowly getting started on planning our wedding. Today after church we met with my preacher. I go to a baptist church and my fiancé is Methodist but doesn't attend. The preacher was telling us that before he can marry us we have to come to the altar at the end of church, then get saved (we both already are). Next he wants us baptized and to join the church. My fiancé was baptized Methodist and he's not happy about the preacher wanting him get baptized again to become baptist. I've never been baptized before. I understand that my having to be baptized isn't unusual, but for him to need to be baptized again seems unnecessary. My question is, did anyone else have to go through all of this? ETA: Thanks everyone for your responses but FI is pretty upset with this preacher and this is a preacher who refused to pray with my aunts dad when he was on his death bed just because her dad wasn't saved. So I think we'll visit FI's old church and see how that goes.

  • Hello, welcome and congrats!

Sorry I'm not going to be much of help with your issue. FI and I are both Catholic and baptised. The only thing I can suggest is speaking with the preacher about your FI's concerns.

  • Hi there!  Good luck with the preacher.  I'm also no help- my mother is Jewish, my father is Catholic, and my fiance is Hindu.  There are no baptisms in two of those religions!

  • Congratulations we have the same date too!

Regarding the officiant I am really no help ... FI is a Christian and I am a Messianic Jew, in Jan we asked my Rabbi to marry us, I've been going to my temple since I was 11 an they met FI way before while we were in high school. His only requirement is we participate in the 12 week marriage counselling program which is necessary for him to marry us, FI and I spoke about it and he knows what this means to me & he really likes my Rabbi so we are doing it.

If your really not happy with your officiant look online there are many officiants who will marry without extreme requirements
