Surprise!!

I fell victim to a surprise bridal shower this weekend.  I was lured under the pretense of a housewarming party to my sister's house, AND my shower was "planned" for July 8th, so I didn't suspect a thing.

It was a great time - about 30 friends & family outside in the backyard (sunny & 90 - my favorite weather!).  Lunch was a potato bar and my sister made this awesome cake that was skydiving themed - the canopy of the parachute was all cake and where the parachuter would be was a mini heart cake (I skydive).  I got awesome gifts - nearly everything was off registries, so stuff I wanted (we're in our 30s and pretty established in housewares).

The part I found hardest was trying to talk to everyone since you know EVERYONE!!  At other events, you stick with the few you know, but obviously when it's for you, it's difficult.  Some people I didn't even get to talk to one-on-one, so I feel a bit bad, but I hope they understand.

Re: Surprise!!

  • How fun, a surprise shower! Glad you had a great day! My shower was also this weekend, although I knew about it (had to because FH and I also moved this weekend). The shower was amazing and I received so many amazing items, I am so grateful. (now for the hard part- finding places in our new apartment to put our regular stuff plus shower stuff! lol).

There were about 40-50 at my shower and I also feel bad that I didn't get to talk to everyone. I at least said hi and thank you to mostly everyone, but there was one friend of my FMIL that I didn't even see come in and had to leave early (and can't make it to the wedding). I feel super bad about it, but I guess, what can you do?

  • Yay! I also had a surprise shower this weekend on Sunday. Mine was about the same amount of people, like 30-35. It was at a wonderful italian restaurant. My mom tricked me by saying it was a seminar for something, which I totally fell for!!
It was slightly embarrassing but really ended up being a wonderful day :)

Rungirl ... I completely agree with you about that! There were some people I didn't really talk to as much as others, but oh well. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves and that's all that matters!
  • I knew when my shower was, but I still had a surprise because my aunt made centerpieces to show me (and she said she'd make them for the reception too)!!  I agree it is hard to talk to everyone, I didn't get a chance to talk to everyone at mine and I felt bad about that!!  Glad you had a fun time at your shower! :)
