When do you start getting ready for a 2 or 3 ceremony?

I have a question for the brides who are getting married around 2-3 in the afternoon.  What time are you going to get your hair and MU done?  I was talking with my mom last night and I told her I was going to start getting ready (hair/make up appt at 8 or 9 am) and she say that is way too early.  She said “it’s going to be at least 90-100+ degrees in June, you’ll start sweating, possibly ruin your make up you need to start getting ready later in the afternoon”.

What time do I need to start getting ready?  Everything will be done at CP so I don’t have to run all over town.

Thanks!

I think that depends on your schedule...  If you're getting pictures taken before the ceremony somewhere, you're probably not wrong about needing to get ready at 8:00-9:00 a.m. depending on where you're shooting and how long.  Or if you have a huge bridal party, it might take a couple of hours to get everyone made up.

However if you're not planning on doing a photoshoot beforehand and your wedding party is fairly small and isn't having anything major done, I think your mom is right and you don't need to start getting ready that early unless you want to.  In that case it might be better to order a room service lunch that way you don't have to go out and worry about sweat/wind messing up your hair/etc. before the ceremony.

I'm getting married at 2:00 p.m. and I figure I'll try and make the appointment around 10:30 a.m.  since it'll only be one bridesmaid and me.  I'll probably have a light lunch with my mom and bridesmaid (probably be too nervous to eat much), and then relax until it's time for the first look.

I am getting married at CP and the package I have includes an extra hour with the photographer so I'm thinking about having him/her take 1/2 hr of us girls getting ready and a 1/2 hr of the guys getting ready, do you think that is enough time for him to get pictures of hair/MU?  I don't, but my mom does....

After the ceremony (I have the Juno garden for 1 hr & ceremony will be maybe 10 mins so 45 mins of pics CP photographer) I plan to have Todd take pictures after CP photog is done (I want the 2 hr strip tour) and of reception.

I'm sorry I can't really offer you much of an answer on  that since I'm still in planning mode like you, but I'd probably give an estimate of an hour for me to be ready and maybe 30 mins. for the bridesmaid?  TBH I haven't thought about it too much because we have our photog for the day except for the ceremony where we have to use the venue's photog.

Hopefully some of the other brides who have already tied the knot can tell you how long it took and how it was photographed.  =)

Thanks I appreicate it!  I'll wait to see if anyone else has some advice for me.  Smile

I would like to book Todd for the whole day regardless if there are 2 photographers...I'm sure it wouldn't be the first time 2 photographers were there at the same time.  Laughing

My wedding is at 5pm (have to be at the chapel at 4:30) and I've got two hair/make up artists coming at 9am!

We've got 5 people getting their hair done and 2 people getting makeup.

It's better to schedule more time then less. Plus, if you're in air conditioning, you won't sweat off your makeup.

How many people will be getting ready with you?  For myself and 4 bridesmaids it took 5 hours for hair and makeup with Lori White.  We had a 5 oclock ceremony and Lori came at 11 to start.  You will need to show up to the ceremony site about a half hour before your scheduled time, so make sure you factor that in as well.

1/2 hour seems like plenty of time to get pictures of you getting ready.

I do not know how many BM I will be having.  I have asked 3 so far and 2 are definites and the other is unsure yet.  I can have up to 5 BM so I guess I still have time to figure the timing out, but trying to get all my eggs in a basket.  LOL

When you call or email your MUA and tell them how many girls you have getting hair and make up done (and if you need to be ready for a strip tour, pictures, etc), then will usually quote you a time.

I would think no later than 11am.

Ditto Ebony. Once you know how many people are in your wedding party, you can ask your hair/MUA what they think.

For example, I want to be ready around 1/1:30 to start pictures before my 5pm ceremony. I have 7 women, including me, split among Harmony and Francesca, and we are starting at 9. They recommended an hour for each person getting hair and makeup.

since you say you can have up to 5 bridesmaids, i'm assuming you have the Caesar package and are getting ready at Color Salon?  if you're getting ready at the salon, you can bump the time back a bit because there are going to be multiple people to do the hair and makeup - as compared to having someone come to your room who might only have themselves and one other person.

i have 4 bridesmaids, but only 3 of them are getting hair and makeup.  our appointments start at 10:30am in the Color Salon and i was told by the salon coordinator that it will take 1.5 hours to get everything done (including the polish change included in our salon package).  I'm actually giving myself around 2 hours in working out my schedule, just to be safe.  that should still leave around 2 hours to go back up to the room and get ready for our 3pm ceremony.

It took us about two hours to get ready, with six BMs.  I used Francesca, who brought an assistant, and the girls all did their own makeup.
This is a neglected planning bio.
This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284

AMANDAJEAN-Yes I am getting my MU and hair done at Color Salon.  Smile

I am not sure on who is getting their hair and make up done with me.  I know it is still early, but now I have an idea.  Thanks a million ladies!

I did my hair/MU @ Color since it was included in my package. Our ceremony was at 5:30pm and I rescheduled (my WC set appt at 8am! too early!) appt to 1pm. It was only me, I had Glamsquad for my 4 BM and they started on them around the same time. It took about 2hrs, I have long hair. It was plenty of time to finish getting ready and take getting ready pics. Does your package include a trial? If it does, then you'll have a better grip on how long it will take.

JCCSLW-Yes I have the package where I get a trial the day before at Color and the day of my wedding.  I have the price list from Color of prices so I can show my girls how much it will be if they decide to get their hair and MU done with me.  I am also looking into how much it would be for someone to come to the room if they don't want to pay the prices at Color.  Or if the girls want to do their own hair and MU, I don't know yet.

At least now I have an idea of how long I should allot for time.  Cool

Thank Goodness for the LV board.  Smile

I was on the same boat as you. I wanted my BMs to have the same experience, but as more and more money was being spent elsewhere, I just couldn't afford to pay for 4 BM at Color, so I went with Glamsquad and probably saved at least $300. Now, there's so many other MU artist that are less even less than GS , and brides that were happy with the results that you can see if your BMs want to go with some else.

Check out Lavey's wall photos, there's some pics of brides getting ready at Color.

since we're having a destination wedding and people are paying quite a bit of money to be there, i offered to pay for the girls hair and makeup, if they wanted it.  3 of my girls said "yes please" and one opted to do it herself.

also, i had no idea how to say "hey,we can do our hair and make up here if you guys want.  p.s. it will cost around $200, and i'm not paying for it".  it was much easier for me to pay to have the 'girls getting ready at the salon' experience i wanted on my wedding day :)

I believe she recently left to work on her own. I wanted to give you a preview of the experience @ Color.
It's not necessary for the bride to pay for mu/hair, but since 2 of my BM are my daughters and i'd had to pay anyways, I figured I'd pay for everyone.
