Lafayette area- when to book?

Hello! I'm a newbie, just got engaged over the holidays, and FI and I are planning to get married sometime during the summer of 2011, probably June or July, in the Lafayette area. Since I have a year and a half, I was going to put off my planning until April or May of this year and just enjoy being engaged (!) for a while. But now I've been reading stuff on the national boards about venues in some areas being booked up 2 years in advance, and I'm a little freaked.

So, my question for married ladies and those who are farther along in their planning- do I actually need to start looking at venues now, or will I be okay as long as I book by around the 1-year mark?

    Some venues may be booked early. Lafayette is, in general, not a busteling town and I had no trouble booking Ross-Ade stadium at about the 1 year mark.  We were looking for a July date, but all the June dates had already been taken, FYI.  I don't think there's any reason to rush unless you have your heart set on a specific location or a specific date.

    If it were me, I'd probably do some investigating now, just to get an idea of what I'd want.  If you come across something you really like just call them and ask them how early do they typically book out.

    I haven't had any issues booking anything in the Lafayette area. i started planning around a year out jus tso i go twhat i wanted. I would for sure look into things first!
