Greece Honeymoon Recommendations

Hi all!

My fiance and I would like to go to Greece for our honeymoon in May 2013.  Any recommendations on places to stay and travel agents?  I've found a couple of beautiful resorts, but because we'd be travelling internationally, I'd rather have somone else do all of the planning for us to make sure everything is done right! :)

  • Santorini was my favorite! Check out Andronis Luxury Suites. Also we used Hellenic Holidays and Petros did everything for us so we didn't have to worry at all! Best trip I ever took!! Would be alittle weary about Athens at this time but the islands would be fine!

  • Andronis looks amazing!

We went last year for our 1 year anniversary in May. I booked everything myself using europeandestinations.com
But if you want to be stress free, using a travel agent might be the way to go.

I posted details in my blog: darcela.blogspot.com/2011/05/greece-anniversary-trip.html

Let me know if you have any other questions.

  • If I went back to Greece I'd do a tour of the islands.  Athens was really dissapointing.

  • We are also thinking of doing Greece, hopefully a cruise and maybe some overnight stays in select towns.  Does anyone recommend a cruise?
  • I second the recommendation for using Hellenic Holidays to book a Greek honeymoon.  Petros is amazing to work with -- just read the reviews on the HH website.  We booked Casa Delfino in Crete, Astra Suites in Santorini, and the Mykonos Grand in Mykonos.
  • I wrote this review back when we got back from our HM . Hopefully this will help you with your planning. But if I had to only pick one island it would be Santorini. Only stay in Athens a day in a half not much to do their and well worth more your time in Santorini or Mykonos. Defintely do sunset cruise if you go to Santorini. We were on the Blue Lagoon and the food was excellent and loved the experience.

We booked through Hellenic Holiday in NY city.  Mainly everything was planned through e-mails and phone calls. Peter was awesome at getting back to us with in a day or two. He is very professional and honest. I was looking for a travel agent who would listen to what we wanted in our experience in Greece and what we were willing to spend as well. Peter made that happen. He also made all the private transportation arrangements. All the drivers we had were very courteous and gave a little story about the island. We felt safe and at ease with all of them.

We stayed in Amalia Hotel in Athens.  It is a great location and easy to walk to most things in Athens. In Mykonos, we stayed at the Mykonos Grand which was five stars all the way. They were so great about helping us plan our day or helped with directions to the bus station. They always were available to answer any of our needs. I have to say I didn't want to leave the hotel because it was so beautiful but we of course needed to explore the Island. Finally, we stayed at Astra Suites in Santorini. It was so breath taking and everything our travel agent said it would be. Although, there was a lot of steps to walk and not that close to the towns Fira and Oia but worth staying here for the nice service and views.
All the hotels our travel agent booked us at was everything he said it would be. He was very upfront with any challenges we might face. Like the steps in Santorini and taking the private transfers might have to change pick up times due to any taxi strikes. Peter at all times could call our hotel if that was the case. Because we didn't have international plans on our phones I asked Peter if he wouldn't mind sending our families updates when we arrived on the islands safe; which indeed he did. Our families were so grateful for that.

I would like to just end on that our HM was the most amazing trip that we will never forget. I could go on about all the little things we did in each island but it would be to long to do. If you have any further questions please feel free to PM with questions. I want to just say that we felt safe at all times in Greece and the Island were surreal . Hope this help some of you who are planning a Greece HM.

Some regrets we did so don't make the same mistakes we  did.
    1. Book the wine tour through Via http://www.santoriniwinetour.com  . My friend did it and she said it was amazing. We instead took the bus and didn't get the same treament as he gave to my friends tour. He picks you up at your hotel and drives you to different winerys and tells you about them.
    2. We almost didn't do a ATV but we ended up doing it and was so happy we did in Mykonos.
    3. Make sure you bring long sleeves shirts for at night when it cools down. I didn't pack enough of those.
    4. Relax your on your HM.
  • This is all great info, thanks so much!
