Questions for DJ Meetings

I'm meeting with a DJ company (that also does up lighting) this weekend and I was wondering what questions I should ask.  The only question I can think of is "Will you be the DJ for our reception?".  Any DJ/lighting questions will be very appreciated.

I just received a quote for another DJ company that I want to interview over the phone since I'm not in the area and they only take appointments Monday-Thursday.  Having good DJ questions is really important for this because this company in a few hundred dollars cheaper.

Thank you!!

I know your appointment may have passed at this point, but ask if they allow you to make a playlist? Specifically a play and do not play list. Think about whether or not you want guests to be able to request songs at the reception. Also, what will they play during cocktail hour? Do they bring an internet connected system with them? Some Djs bring a laptop with internet connection so if a request was made, and they do not have that song, they can download it on the spot. Attire and a backup in case of emergencies is also important to ask like the PP said. Make sure they aren't going to talk the WHOLE time. I know it is important for them to be somewhat vocal, like if people aren't dancing and to announce certain dances/toasts/etc. But I know someone who had a DJ who would NOT stop talking the entire time. During their first dance he kept butting in over the song like "Aren't they lovely??" "What a magical moment!" Shut up and let them have their moment! haha. Sorry, rant.

  • Looking at my list...

Are they going to create our schedule and coordinate with our caterer?

How early will they get there to set up?

    Backup equipment?

    Insurance?

    Do they do lighting?

    Will they interact?  How much?

How will the set up look?

    How will they be dressed?

Is the guy I'm meeting with the same guy who will be there?

    Do you need a meal?
