Sunrise Wedding -thoughts

So I've had the thought forever I'd get married on the beach at sunset on the West Coast of Florida. I grew up and my family lives on the East coast where sunrises have been the most amazing special part of my day over many years. I now live in Peru. I'm working on a very small budget now that I'm engaged and actually planning. Realizing that getting my entire family to the West coast, spending on hotels, and locals, and no vendor discounts from relationships etc.. is expensive. So I've been thinking about staying on the East coast and doing sunrise. In June. At 6am. I know, crazy. But it's a small list of super close friends and family. I'm not worried about no-shows. I'm worried about being able to get the bridal party dressed. It'd be dark (I'm a photographer and big on natural light) and what time would we have to start getting dressed? On the other hand, we could get dressed in my family's homes and be 10 minutes from the beach.
Would it be a big deal to be up most of the night? and I love the idea of a brunch reception... (there's no alcohol anyway)
We could still do dancing (there's no drinking either way) but would it be a lot harder to get people to dance?

mmmm....just a crazy thought that it might be super special and unique. Or just insane. Thoughts?

Re: Sunrise Wedding -thoughts

  • I saw an episode of Four Weddings a while back and the girl did this. More than half of her guests were no shows. However, like you said you do not care about that. I would suggest asking your family and bridal party their thoughts. If everyone is going to be tired and grumpy it doesn't really sound like fun or something to look forward to.

</div><div>It actually sounds very unique and intimate.  I'm not sure about dancing that early, but an awesome brunch reception with close family and friends sounds lovely.

  • I have actually seen the episode Amy speaks about. The bride did have no-shows but she didn't seem to mind since she seemed so happy. I think you will be fine and you know your bridal party best so you may know better if they will be cranky or excited while getting ready. In all honesty, you aren't asking for much and it will be something intimate...I'm sure it will be everything you want and more.
  • I second missv that a sunrise wedding followed by brunch and dancing sounds very unique and intimate. If you're confident your guests will understand and be happy joining you, I think something that would be so meaningful to you and your FI is an awesome idea!
As for getting ready, you could do a hairstyle like rag curls where you would sleep in it until you had to get up to put on your make-up and then just polish off your hair then (of course, you have to be able to pull off rag curls).
Of course, I wonder how many brides actually get much sleep the night before their wedding, I imagine I'm going to either be waaaay to excited to sleep, or so exhausted from running around I'm going to have to be pried from my bed with a crowbar. Of course, this is coming from someone who isn't even close to being a morning person- but if you are, then go for it and enjoy your wedding in the way that will make you happiest!
  • I love brunch!!! what a fun idea!  Maybe you could serve everyone some Cuban coffee or espresso on the way to the ceremony to rev them up!!!  If your family is not on board for this maybe you all could drive over to the West Coast for the day to have the sunset?  just an idea since it's not very far across Alligator Alley.  Good luck and keep us posted.  Sounds like a fun wedding already!!
