Toast and Jam DJ's

Any experience/opinions regarding this company??  They sound awesome on the website----somewhat skittish we aren't able to hear them at venues, so how do you decide??  Leap of faith??  What are most of you budgeting for this portion of the program??

They used to get recommended by Chicago Knotties all the time, but I haven't seen anyone using them lately. Here are a few bios I saved with their recommendations

My brother and his wife used them for their wedding in Oct "08.  The DJ was pretty good, but there was one slight issue.  One of my cousins requested a song on the DO NOT PLAY LIST.  The DJ was supposed to say that she didn't have the song, but instead, she told my cousin that the bride and groom wouldn't allow it to be played.  My cousin was really angry about it the whole thing and confronted my brother about it at the wedding.  I guess the DJ was new to the company and just forgot what she was supposed to say.  This really wasn't too big of a deal.  I can tell you that my brother and his wife said that besides that little incident, the DJ played exactly what they had wanted.

Rachel and Kate were the DJs at my wedding this past Saturday.  They did an amazing job.  The dance floor was packed all night.  Everyone had a blast.  I would highly recommend them.  They did an amazing job!!  A++++.

We booked them for our wedding.  We only met with one DJ, Laura, and she immediately won us over.  My fiance & I have very different taste in music (He loves indy rock & I love pop divas) and she made me feel like she can find a way to make both styles work for our wedding.  We also really hate cheesy wedding music, & this is a company that makes it clear that they won't play any of those songs.

We're using Dustin from Toast & Jam and he's been great so far! Very knowledgeable about music, and you can tell that with all their DJs, you won't end up with cheesy wedding music. Like PP, there have been plenty of former Knotties who used them and gave them great reviews, most just don't post here anymore.

I have never heard them at a wedding, but I know they are great djs who love what they do and have a WAY better record collection than your standard wedding DJ- my fiance is friends with a couple of them. (OK, I'm biased.)

A few of their DJs (maybe all, I'm not sure) are on CHIRP -CHIRPRADIO.ORG-  I'm sure they play whatever the couple requests at wedding, but if you want to get an idea of their personal style you could listen to their shows...(Mary Nisi- the owner is on Mondays from noon-3 and Dustin Drase is on tonight at 9)

We are using Mary for our wedding in September. We just loved her after our initial meeting because she was so funny and laid back. Obviously I can't say anything about her services since the wedding isn't for another 4 months, but so far things have been great.

You can't go wrong with Toast & Jam, I have been to quite a few weddings/events where they have DJ'ed and they are always a hit. Like someone else said, a few of them DJ on CHIRP so maybe you can listen to them on there? I honestly don't know how easy it would be to preview/listen to most of the popular wedding DJs. It's not like you can go listen to them at someone else's wedding?

If they are available for your date snag them! I waited too long and they were booked once we were finally ready to book a DJ and we've been kicking ourselves (for waiting!) every since.....

My fiance and I met with Kate and Rachel on Monday.  They seem really knowledgable about music and are pretty cool.  I think we're going to go with them for our wedding because they're just so unique and seem like they would make our reception a lot of fun!

We just had Dustin at our 4/18 wedding, and people literally booed when he said he was playing the last song- people had that much fun. If you don't want generic wedding music, they are definitely the best dj's around!

I am using Dustin, too.  We loved him when we met him.  I think everything about the company is great - I hope it goes well on the actual day in July! Just check out Yelp if you need some good reviews for T&J!

Thanks for all the feedback thus far!  We have an appointment with Kristin next week and are very hopeful we won't need to look any further!  So far, the only concern/worry is that it has been very difficult to make any type of daytime appointments.  Coming from the suburbs, it is hard to drive into the city in the early evening hours because traffic can be so hard to determine!  Our first appointment is at 5:30.  We will go early to play it safe and just knock around until appointment time.  But it concerns me next Spring when we have further appointments as our time will be much less flexible!
