Help me find shipped Dinner Plate Dahlias!

Hey all! I am desperate to find dinner plate dahlias in my wedding and would love advice, referrals, etc. I am looking to order them in bulk and have them shipped to me.
Not picky about color, just ask for light and pastels.

I have searched through lots of sites and aren't seeing them. Fifty flowers has them but only in August.

The facts:
Wedding is in May, would need them on May 23rd
Shipping to Florida
I don't care about price!

Thanks guys!

  • Have you tried asking a florist or maybe a grocery store floral department like Whole Foods.

    We got married 11/3/12!!

  • Not familiar with any onsite websites that supply those. Have you asked a local florist if they can supply them and received a quote? The reason I ask is because if one website only has them during a certain month, they may be so hard to get at the time of your wedding that the cost is prohibitive (in spite of the fact you will pay any price).

I'd get ideas from a real florist store locally before continuing my search.

I love dahlias and really wanted them for my wedding. Unfortunately my wedding was late July and they weren't in bloom yet. Dahlias are a late summer and autumn flower, which is why you're seeing them only available in August at the earliest. Being that you have a May wedding, there's a good chance you'll be out of luck because of their growing season.

Fortunately, since you're having a spring wedding, there are many types of flowers available to you. You specifically mention the dinner plate variety, do you like them because their blooms are so large? If so, you may like peonies which have large blooms and are light and fluffy looking. They come in a bunch of different colors.

Trying meeting with a florist, even if you plan on doing the flowers yourself. They may be able to help you with other flower suggestions.

I'm a flower farmer.  <div>There are two problems with getting dinner plate dahlias in May.  Dahlias are day length sensitive and won't bloom during short spring days without lots of extra light and heat which is prohibitively expensive for most growers.  You can get most likely get dahlias shipped from South America in May.  However, dahlias don't ship well and dinner plate dahlias are even more fragile and won't last through the shipping process.  I don't think you will be able to find any dinner plate dahlias for your May wedding.  Peonies are also beautiful and would make a decent substitute. Peonies with lilacs would be gorgeous.</div>
