Reception Venue ideas

I am looking for ideas of reception locations. We are getting married in November and have alot of out of town guests, but not a big budget. I have a family friend that can do the catering so anywhere where an outside caterer is allowed would be great to know as well. Anybody have any recommendation?

Thanks

    Monclova Community Center (Monclova)
Ward Pavillion at Wildwood Metropark (Toledo)
The Lodge at Strawberry Acres Park (Holland)
    Oak Openings Lodge (Swanton)

All of those places allow outside catering.  If you are also interested in checking out other halls that require you to use their caterer, these are some that I recall being reasonably priced.

    Lakeview Banquet Facility (Rossford)
Bayside Boardwalk (Oregon)  *We chose here!*
    Graystone Banquet Hall (Perrysburg)

How many people are you looking to invite?  Also, if you want more help, it may be better to know more specifically what you are looking at with your budget.  Not a big budget for some is a lot of money to others.

PS.  Welcome to the board!  The ladies around here can be very helpful for planning your wedding!  I found at least a couple of vendors through their recommendations!

Ditto PP on asking how many people and a ballpark budget.  Also, do you have any idea around what part of town you'd like to be?

I am looking to invite ~ 300 people. At least 100 of them are from out of town and might not make the trip. There are many more people from out of town that will make the trip so as far as part of town, I'm not particular on that but closer to hotel areas and easily accessible by out of towners would be a plus. The only place I have really looked at is the Park Inn but at about $50 a person it is just too much. I don't really know specific budget yet but I would guess 10k or less.
Thanks for the info though. I will look into these places!

Franciscan Center at Lourdes College (outside caterer)
LaRoy's Hall, La Salle, MI (it's all-inclusive there, they cater)

One thing to be careful of is that some places "allow" outside caterers, but they must be from their approved list. I ran into this problem at The Franciscan Center, Stranahan, and Valentine Theatre. My parents have a small restaurant and they were going to be my caterer, but they weren't on the approved lists despite having done caterings in these places years ago. (They are just now getting back into catering.)

My point being, be sure to ask if you can bring in outside caterers of your choosing.

I'm having mine at the Erie Street Market. There's a hall inside called Civic Center Promenade. They allow outside catering. They do the Bar though. It looks kind of awesome. There's a fountain and a tree in the middle of it plus a big stage and old pictures of Toledo on the walls.

300 people is quite a lot!  I'm not much help to you and most (or all) of the places I suggested will be too small.  We planned for 80-100 and looked for venues on the smaller side.  Just be sure that you do choose a venue that CAN accomodate everyone.  Even though so many people are coming from out of town, you may be surprised by how many show up!  Best of luck!

Also, make sure the family friend is a licensed caterer.  Most places will not allow people who are not licensed.

I know they hold weddings at the Martin Luther King Jr. Plaza downtown.  It's beautiful and I think it holds a lot of people, but that's about all I know about it.
