9/11

Today, I watched 2 hours of the NBC news coverage from the morning of 9/11/01. It was the same broadcast I had seen 10 years ago. I actually can't believe I just watched 2 whole hours of it - I was so transfixed, feeling the same emotion I felt when it happened, watching the second plane hit, seeing the newscasters cut to the image of the pentagon, the amazement as the towers fell, and the confusion about a possible fourth plane going down in a field...

I was in 8th grade. I remember I walked into my social studies class, and my teacher had the TV on and her eyes glued to it. No one knew what was going on. Right as all the students got to their seats, we saw the second plane hit. My teacher started crying and told us that she wouldn't be teaching a class today, we'd just be watching what was going on, and that we were living history. Our school decided we wouldn't swtich classes, so we watched it for like 3 hours (I remember who I was sitting next to and behind). Classes resumed "as usual" after lunch. I walked to my friends house after school that day, and as soon as we got to her house we turned on the TV to find out what had happend.

I know you all remember exactly where you were and what you were doing and what you saw on the news. Anyone have thoughts/stories/random whatever to share about this grim anniversary?

It is crazy how much everyone remembers from that day. I was sitting in my 9th grade science class, I remember exactly where I was sitting when someone came over the PA system and told us to turn on the televisions in our classrooms. We changed classes like normal that day, and it was up to the teachers if they would teach that day. All of my teachers turned on the tvs except for my last hour, wenchy math teacher. She got really mad that no one would focus that day. As soon as I got home, I remember turning on the tv and being glued to it. I was fairly naive though, I didn't realize the severity of everything at the time.

I agree its really crazy how we all rememeber exactly where we were...

I was in my 7th grade english class...The teacher was crying and on the phone with her husband, she was from New York I don't know if any of her family was affected though. I rememeber asking the kid next to me what a terriost was because I've never heard that word before and then when the pentagon was hit we went on lockdown.I remember going home and flipping thru the channels and nothing was on and going to bed that night really scared when I heard an airplane.

I know its been 10 years but Ive never actually got to see the actual news reports while it was happening because we went on lockdown and sent to the lunch room...its just amazing to see it happen in real time.

I walked into my 7th grade science class and Mrs. Conners said, "we're under attack. if a siren goes off, be prepared to get under your desks!"
-not kidding.

So, I immediately freaked out, ran to the office and demanded to call my mother and have her pick me up. They thought I was crazy, but my mom came to get me. She didn't understand why I wanted to go home. I told her a building in New York was attacked and she said "that was just a plane crash!" - she really didn't think it was a terrorist.

I remember when I saw the second plane coming toward the towers from the background.. I vividly remember thinking, "hey! hey! get out of there another plane is coming!"

I think that day a lot of middle schoolers realized that America was not invincible. I honestly never thought anybody could do anything like that do us.

But, now my older brother is in the Army - so that opens up a whole new can of worms!

I remember that day from the time I woke up to every little event that took place. My son was 3 months old and I woke up with him at 7am for his morning feeding. Like every morning, I woke up and turned on the Today Show. I was sitting in my bed holding my son when they started talking about it. I remember being so confused as to what was happening then I started to figure it out. I saw the 2nd plane hit the tower on tv and my heart dropped. I sat there and held my son crying. Being thankful for him in my life. Soon after, I heard about the Pentagon and that's where my day got crazy. My dad was in D.C for a business trip and his corporate headquarters was down the road from the Pentagon. I called my mom asking if she had heard from dad and she said she was trying to get a hold of him, but there was no service for cell phones down there. I immediately got dressed, got my baby dressed, and drove immediately over to her house. We sat there crying at the table not knowing if my dad was ok, where he was, what was happening. After hours and hours of trying to get a hold of him, he finally called and said he was safe.

Watching the reports this week have brought back a lot of bad memories and have upset me horribly. Last night after the UofM football game, FI and I were laying in bed watching MSNBC and their coverage of the 9/11 reports. They showed the video of the 2nd plane crashing and all of those same feelings came right back. I immediately started to cry again. It's so amazing how all the same feelings came right back and I never thought I'd be so emotional.
