Flower girl alternatives

I just found out that my church we're getting married at doesn't allow any petal tossing. I already asked one of my close friends daughters to be our flower girl months ago and I know she's really looking forward to it. I'm still going to have her in our wedding, but I would like something fun and unique for her to do as she walks down the aisle. Any ideas?

Re: Flower girl alternatives

  • 1-they said petal tossing or no real petals. Our church had a restriction on real flowers but allowed fake ones. 2-I wouldn't have her do anything else, just give her a pomander ball (you can make them, super easy and they can keep it. I have a how to in my bio). 3-or she can hold a "Here Comes the Bride" sign.

  • I like Tiffannie's suggestions
  • My church also has this restriction. We are getting a pomander ball for our flower girl. Another option is to give her a mini bouquet or basket with flowers.

Also although we are going with real flowers for me and my bridesmaids, we are probably doing silk flowers for the flower girl. I figure this way there is less of a chance of them getting messed up before she walks down the aisle and she'll get to keep them.

This is exactly what my aunt did when I was a flower girl for her wedding. Her church must not have allowed petal tossing either (I was 5, so don't know details) but I carried a white basket with silk flowers that were similar to the bridesmaid bouquets.

For my wedding, the cousins FI asked are on that cusp of being a little too old to be tossing petals (9 and 10) so they'll carry smaller versions of the bridesmaid bouquets.
  • i absolutely LOVE the "here comes the bride sign". SO stinkin cute =)
  • Both churches we are looking at said no real flowers, because they can get crushed into the carpet when people walk, but silk flowers are fine.

I like the "Here Comes the Bride" sign idea. Or just a bouquet or basket of flowers to carry.

  • I wanted to have some thing I could keep and I am making ribbon flowers for my flowergirl to toss. They have been super easy and came out really cute. Plus it was something my stepdaughter (flowergirl) and I could make together. really made her feel part of the wedding :)

  • Something cute I saw on Four Weddings the other day was they had a girl holding a "here comes the bride" sign and she ran down the aisle yelling "the bride is coming!" This working out would definitely depend on her personality, but I thought it was SO cute!
