why am I pulling an all-nighter to finish the last paper of my college career?

....and why am I on the knot (and playing solitaire and youtubing videos and checking facebook) when I have to finish this paper before 6:30pm wed?  grrrr.  I am graduating with my master's degree in a few short weeks, so you'd think I'd learn by now NOT to procrastinate!  I know others are in similar situations as me.  How can I find the motivation to just get the freaking thing DONE?

  • I hate it when that happens. Hopefully I don't get back into the procrastination phase if I get into the masters program this fall.

I think discipline and having set "homework/study" times helps.  I was able to do that occassionally through grad school.  Good luck:)  I'm getting ready to turn my paper in to class in just a few minutes:)

I did that in my undergrad. If I had homework I would go home and do it immediately because I was still in "the zone." Same with papers. Even though they would be due in a month, I would force myself to at least make an outline and a thesis. It worked well until I moved in with four guys. Video games, basketball in the house (tiny net and blow-up ball) and midnight runs to the 7-11 down the street are very tempting.
  • in the same boat but it is the last of my first year in grad school-- still have one more miserable year.
I hate that i have to write a gazillion papers every semester.
    SO OVER THIS!!!
totally not going to sleep . i am such an ass .

<div>There are tools you can use to force yourself not to procrastinate. For example, there's a handy extension called Leech Block for Firefox, which will block certain websites for whatever time periods you tell it. Additionally, you can go somewhere to study and not bring your computer. Or if you need your computer, disable the wifi (there's usually a button on the laptop to do it really quickly). You can still turn the wifi back on when you need, but it'll stop you from mindlessly going onto Facebook. You can post a status message on Facebook saying you need to work and that if anyone sees you posting anything, they have the right to scold you. Just things like that. I hope it helps :)</div>
