New Job!! Any NYer's who can help w/ area??

Hey ladies,
A while back I posted about maybe trying out the consulting world. Well, last Thursday they sent my resume out to possible clients, one asked for an interview with me yesterday for today at 3. Well, I just got a call back from my company that the hospital loved me and wants me to come work for them. My first interview, and a yes!!! Wow.
I am a Florida girl, and the hospital is in Cooperstown, NY. I have never been. I will be starting in early August...any recommendations would be helpful. It is an hour west of Albany (which I would fly into), 4 hours Northwest of NY, NY and 4 hours west of Niagra Falls...which I will have to do one weekend for sure!!

I am excited, but sooo nervous!

Yay! I'm very familiar with that area. FI went to Hartwick College in Oneonta Ny (right outside of Cooperstown). Are you going to be working at Basset Hospital? FI did some shadowing there in college. If you want any names of restaurants or things to do, let me know. If you like Baseball, the Hall of Fame is right there : ). Also, there lots of us Upstate NY ladies on this board to help you out too!

What a small world! I actually live in Oneonta, which as Nic said is right outside of Cooperstown. Cooperstown is a nice tourisyt town. They have the Baseball Hall of Fame and tons of baseball related and other cute small little shops. Do you have any specific questions about the area?

I'm right outside of Albany, so you won't be far from me! I'm not very familiar with Cooperstown but if you need anything in Albany/Capital District I'm good there! Is this a short term position? I might have missed that if you posted!

I grew up for 11 years in Vestal (suburb of Binghamton), which is about an hour and half away, so not too much help, but Onenta is nice, from what I've seen of it.

I'm not familiar with Cooperstown, but I live 15 minutes from Niagara Falls, so when you trek up this way, I can give you suggestions and pointers!

Thank you all, I am pretty excited now that I research it more.

BritRN - Nooo, this will only be for consulting work. I travel there Monday - Thursday and fly back to FL Friday - Sunday. I can stay up there whenever I want, which I will def be doing to go explore.

Mbuck - Yes, this is somewhat short term. We havent put the contract together yet, but I will most likely start in August and then will prob go through December or February.
I will def need to know about Albany, I want to spend a weekend there exploring...and will fly in and out of there each week. I believe that is the closest airport to that area.

Nic and Kimm - I believe I will be staying in Milford? I think they want me to stay in the Country Inn and Suites there...so I will be even closer. I def need to know about good steaks and BBQ. I see there is an Applebee's and the usual fast food places...which I know...but not many others. The closet outback is 45 minutes away!!
Nic - where do you live? Yes, I will be at Bassett!! How did your FI like it, I guess they are a huge teaching school.

Aimee - I want to go explore the Niagra Falls area, I have never been...so this is a definite while I am up there. I will have to make sure to contact you when I am up that way.

Man, I didnt realize how many Upstate NY girls there are. We should do a GTG!! Im surprised y'all havent already. I am so happy there are girls who are close that can help me out!!! I need your FB's. Whoa, hold the phone! Nic, your FI went to Hartwick? Kimm, you LIVE in Oneonta?? Oneonta is my hometown! This is nuts, I've never run into so many local people on the internet before! We definitely don't have very many chain restaurants around here and Applesbees is hit or miss as far as quality goes. We have a great BBQ place called Brooks' BBQ right out of town, it is fantastic.

Will you have access to a fridge in your hotel to store some food or will you have to go out to eat for all your meals?

And let me know when are up here and I can show you around.

I live in Rochester (3 hours west of Albany, an hour east of Buffalo) now, but I'm originally from Amsterdam, NY (30 min west of Albany) and we're getting married in Saratoga Springs, NY (30 min north of Albany). Fishin: I just friended you on FB. I'll ask FI what he thought of Bassett (I've never been there), and get back to you with some good food recs too (Brooks BBQ mentioned by a pp is a good one!) EDIT: Social networking for the win ; )

I'm about 2-3 hours from there but I have tons of friends who live in that area, some of who I believe work or have worked at Bassett (if thats where your job is)! Let me know if you have specific questions I could ask them! I'd also definititely be up for a knotties get together!

Congrats, and throwing myself in as an "honorary" upstate NY-er-- we're getting married outside of Albany, in Latham, and that's where FI is from. But I'm a Florida girl like you, OP! I'm from Miami originally, and now we live in NYC.

Anyway, the point of my replying is not to just talk about myself, ha, it is my contribution to what to do in Cooperstown-- the Ommegang Brewery does a lot of events in the summer:

I'm a big fan of Bon Iver and would LOVE to go see them on the 17th of September, but it's a Monday and considering I'm taking off just a bit of time off from work in October, I can't swing it.

There are so many NYer's here! I live about 1.5-2 hours away from Albany. They have an amazing Cheesecake Factory there. Its were FI and I made the decision to move in together. It was the best night ever.

Im not sure on the fridge, I hope I have one bc I am going to get sick of going out every night. I either start on 08/06 or 08/13. Petal we really need to do a GTG here too. Although we can fly up thee and do a big one!! I've always wanted to do one.

FI said that Bassett is a nice hospital...he really didn't remember many specifics though.

Thanks girls!!! I still am just shocked how many Upstate NY girls are on here. WOW!!! This is totally helpful. I will be there either 08/06 or 08/13 through November-December, and a possibility of my contract being extended. I cant wait now. I love BBQ, so I will def have to go to that one BBQ place mentioned. Any other reqs are very welcome....I am writing them all down in my notebook so I can make sure to go to all of them while I am there. I am super eexcited now!!!
