DW Invitation Timing/Wording on Invite

My fiance and I are doing a destination wedding. Currently, we are 11 months out as we are planning to get married in February. I just got our save the dates in the mail yesterday so I plan to send those out this weekend. I want everyone to have ample tme to save/prepare for the wedding. But my question is, when should we send out the actual invitation? Maybe 6 months before the wedding?? I couldn't find much online about that.

Also, how do you feel about including the parents names on the invitation? Both our families are helping to pay for the wedding, but they aren't expensing it entirely. I'd prefer that it not include the parents names, but I wonder if the parents would be offended. I feel like our parents are of a different era where that's considered rude. I was thinking maybe writing "Together with their families, bride & groom, request the pleasure of your company at their wedding..." What do you guys think?

I appreciate any advice!!! :) Happy Thursday

Re: DW Invitation Timing/Wording on Invite

  • Invitations go out 6-8 weeks before the wedding. Maybe 10 for a DW. 6 MONTHS is way too early.

We did "Together with their families..." It's always my personal preference on invitations!
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

Ditto all of what Addie said. Don't send out invitations 6 months in advance. People will lose them or forget.

And together with their families is completely acceptable.

This is the perfect time to send your STDs. Do you have a wedding website? If so, put the web address on the STDs. If not, you might want to whip one together (just a simple one here on TK that gives guests the basic details)

No earlier than 8 weeks out. Guests will lose the invites, forget about it, things change, etc, etc.
Also, how do you feel about including the parents names on the invitation? Both our families are helping to pay for the wedding, but they aren't expensing it entirely. DH & I had a similar situation. We asked our parents, and they wanted to be listed by name. While this is not technically correct from a traditional etiquette standpoint, you and your FI have to decide what is important. Making our parents upset by not being named was not a battle we wanted to fight.
I was thinking maybe writing "Together with their families, bride & groom, request the pleasure of your company at their wedding..."
     This is a great option.
What do you guys think? I appreciate any advice!!! :) Happy Thursday
