On some things I really don't see the point of debating. It's not like someone will change my mind about abortion, religion or equal rights for whoever.
I thought you had stated before that you didn't believe homosexuals had the rights to marriage. Maybe it was in another discussion, but I get the feeling you weren't Yay for Gay in general b/c of your faith. I could be wrong, but I've had that impression for awhile.
Nola, what interests me most about your viewpoint is that you once said that the point of pretty much everything was getting into heaven, and making sure your actions warrant getting into heaven. Would you prefer to talk about that instead, rather than a current event hotbutton issue?

<div>I guess I thought otherwise because being against gay marriage seems like one of the most obviously unchristian things imaginable, that it's one of the ways that established religion has tarnished the true nature of christian teachings. is it a question of calling it a marriage, and the way that a marriage is recognized in your church? (eg. marriage is 1 man + 1 woman sealed together/blessed in the eyes of the church, if the church will not "marry" 2 people of the same sex, it isn't valid)
how do you feel about gay people in a long term relationship entering into a "domestic partnership" as recognized by the government, and afforded the same benefits (taxes, healthcare, etc) as a heterosexual couple in a government/church recognized marriage? (essentially more of an equal rights issue vs. a religion issue)
or is it just that in your beliefs that homosexuality is inherently wrong/unnatural/etc., and cannot support homosexual relationships on any level.
no judgement - your beliefs are your own, and you don't have to answer. i'm just curious.
I almost always agree with Nola about most things. I am christian, but do not belong to a cult or crazy group who boycott funerals. If a gay person were in my church they would be accepted, more like hate the sin but love the sinner kind of thinking. I do not believe in gay marriage but do not hate gay people.
Do I believe that marriage is between a man and a woman only, yes.
I also believe that there are people that are born having attraction to the same sex. Do I believe it's a sin, yes? Do I believe that I was born with a sinful nature, yes? Is my sin their sin, no? Do I sin everyday, yes?
I hate that people somehow think that the sin of homosexuality trumps other sins. I also don't understand why we aren't calling other ones to the table like this one.
How do I feel about civil unions? I think that people that want to cohabitate with whomever, should. I believe that if you want a person on your insurance, benefits, hospital visitor log, will, go for it.
I believe that people should voice their opinions on whichever side they fall. There ya go.
Left off one thing. I would never tell a gay person that they are going to hell. I've said it before, I don't have a clue who is going to hell.
Last time I checked every person has the same way to heaven. Gay, straight, whatever. FTR, I'm sure there are a lot of people that were gay on this earth and in heaven. The end.
"I believe that people should voice their opinions on whichever side they fall."
me too.
i am not "YAY for Chik Fil A", i just think that the owner is entitled to have his opinion. i guess if the opposite opinion of the customers is that they don't want to eat at that restaurant because of his beliefs, then good for them, they can do whatever they like. it just seems so out of hand, like now someone has to feel ashamed for getting lunch there because that now means they agree with or support the owner's opinion.
who really cares. and really, all of this talk is probably doing amazing things for CFA's bottom line.

i agree with you on that. I'm fine with others expressing their opinions as long as they're not trying to shove their beliefs down my throat.
thanks for answering my questions - i had a feeling you'd say something similar to what you did. FIL has a very similar opinion, if not a bit more extreme.
i couldn't care one way or another if someone chooses to go to CFA. I'm not going to stop picking up food there on occasion just because the owner of the company doesn't support gay marriage. As i said in one of the PP, my sister worked for the company for 5-6 years in HS and college, and I've always had good experiences with them. Sister received a college scholarship, and her franchise had openly gay long term employees.
FTR - I think that gay people should be able to get married/have a civil union/whatever you want to call it, and have the same basic rights/benefits as any heterosexual couple. I think it should be just as easy for a gay couple to adopt as a straight couple. I'm not religious (i guess you'd call it agnostic) -so that doesn't play a role in my feelings.
Re: Wait - NOLA, are you saying you are against gay marriage?
Plus, I knew it would turn into a never ending debate, and really what's the point in that.
FTR, I had no feelings of trying to change any minds. Who can do that?
Sidenote: Why do I feel like throwing in, "But, I have gay friends" somewhere in this discussion.:)

Well, that's just nonsense.
Where are the lurkers when you need them?
