Where should I start with wedding dress shopping?

So- my mom, my maid of honor, and myself are going out on our first wedding dress excursion this Sunday.

We would like to hit up 2-3 stores and are wondering what your suggestions are on where to start and where to go.  We live in the North Valley, so we'd like to keep it in that general area if possible.

I have a feeling this won't be the first, last, and only time I'll be shopping for my dress- but I would love some ideas on great places to start.

Thanks all!

I don't know of places in North Phoenix, but I went to Azteca first in downtown Phoenix. Which I've heard can get pretty busy and hectic on the weekends. I actually found my dress at Group USA in the AZ mills mall.  The dress is gorgeous and the ladies there were very helpful (surprised me as the store was in a mall), but I'm very happy with my purchase as it saved me some $$ to be used elsewhere for wedding planning. Good luck hunting girls!

I also went to Azteca and ultimately bought my dress there.  It does get slightly chaotic, but I worked directly with the owner to order my dress which was a relief.  They have a HUGE stock of all price ranges.  I would NOT suggest going to I do I do!   I've heard a lot of ladies on here having major problems with them and I was under-impressed by their selection.  They're also not really interested in selling you a dress and are less than professional.  Hope that helps :)

Go to Azteca for sure. They are only open from noon to three on Sundays so make an appointment soon! They're the best! They have a huge selection, the plaza has everything else you could want for your wedding, and my favorite restaurant in the world is in there. Go try on dresses and then have a margarita to relax at Los Dos Molinos. Have fun!

Thanks ladies!  I will definitely check out Azteca.  Did any of you go to David's Bridal?  They're having their $99 dress sale.  Maybe I'll get lucky?

I went to Mairee in Gainey, Destiny's at the Borgata, Lillian Lottie in Old Town Scottsdale, Suzanne's in Gilbert (lots of Maggie dresses), I Do! I Do! in Phoenix & Uptown Bridal in Chandler (super cute store, probably my fav!). After hitting all of those I felt like I "covered" everything I wanted to see & ultimately bought my dress at Destiny's. I've heard great things about Azteca & that was my next stop, but I just fell in love with my dress at Destiny's so there wasn't a reason to keep on looking. Good luck & have fun! Dress shopping should be fun so soak it in, don't stress (you'll find something) & don't let them pressure you to buy too soon. I still managed to snag a deal at Destiny's even though I didn't purchase the dress until my 2nd time at the store, which was 2 mos later.

I am not a fan of Davids Bridal...I have heard some horror stories. Plus the $99 sale is a joke, dont waist your time

I found my dress at Azteca...I went the day after thanksgiving, Black friday and am sooo glad I did, They had an Allure Couture gown there, normally $1300, I got it for only $300!!!!!!!!!!! They always have a sales rack area in the back, so start there if you are on a budget

A bunch of my friends found their dresses at Arizona Bridal Warehouse off the 101 and I want to say broadway...They are also a family owned shop.

I Do I Do does have a bad wrap, I did get my BM's dresses there and my SIL got her wedding dress here. The service can be pretty craptastic but they do have a large selection. When I DID have issues I had a nice talk with the owner and everything was straightened out...if you do go there, tred lightly

Thank you so much for all of the tips ladies!

Just to give you an update: I went to Azteca and David's Bridal today.  I found a dress I really like at Azteca, and two that I liked at David's Bridal.  All said and done I still prefer the one at Azteca the most (and naturally it's also the most expensive).

I refuse to buy the first thing I like (and I only tried on a total of 11 dresses)- so I'm going to keep looking.  I still have a YEAR until the big day- so no need to rush into a dress.

I think I will also check out Arizona Bridal Warehouse, Suzanne's, and Group USA over the next month or so.

    Thank again ladies!
