White Room or Casa Monica

Hello all!
So for the past few months, I have been in touch with The White Room, and have really fallen in love with it. In March, FI & I are going to a wedding there, actually (we live in Sacramento), and I have also made an appointment with them. I do have a budget, and I have been reading about the expensive food & bev minimum for Saturday. I have had my heart set on The Whte Room, and for the date I want (April 6, 2013), the ballroom is already booked but the rooftop & loft is still available, which I like the idea of. I am still concerned about the food & bev minimum- does anyone have info about that for a Saturday night in April? I know a Friday wedding can be a lot more affordable, I just not sure if I want to do a Friday wedding...
With that said, I have also read about Casa Monica, as well as received information from them. I like the idea that it is at a hotel, so accommodations for guests is right there. It seems like a beautiful venue, as well. I am trying to book an appointment with them while we are in St. Aug in March, too.

We probably have the ceremony & reception at the same venue to make things easy.

So- any suggestions, advice, etc?

Thanks :)

PS- I do not want to spend anymore than $18k for both the ceremony & reception (including gratuity & tax), and we will have around 100 guests.

Re: White Room or Casa Monica

  • The Casa Monica is rather expensive.....It is beautiful though.

  • Maybe try the River House in St Augustine.  I am getting married there in Sept.  It would fit in your price range and it's very beautiful.  The is a garden area on the water for the ceremony and the reception ballroom is fantastic!

  • Jen- What caterers would you recommend? I was looking for a venue that provided on site caterin to make thing easier, especially because I am planning from CA. What does the River House include in their wedding package?
  • We are doing July 12, 2013 at The White Room Rooftop during their offpeak season and our total minimum price for ceremony, food & bev, tax & gratuity is a little over 10K. I was looking at April or June originally, but March-May is their peak season and I know the prices were a lot more than July or August, which is why we went with July.
  • I would ask the WR to give you their minimums.  I was between both places as well, although in August so not peak season.  I know that the CM gave me the minumums on my first interaction with interest on the date.
  • I have the caterers narrowed down....I have to finalize this week.  RH has a preffered vendor list to choose from.......I will let you know.

  • My wedding is at the White Room in March 2013. The Saturday night food and beverage min. is $14000 plus tax and gratuity which puts the total to almost $20000. I loved the venue so much we decided to go with a day event which is much more afforable ($6500 min.)
  • I just went to the White Room and got pricing...and to have both your ceremony and reception in either the White Room or Loft/Rooftop on a Saturday, its going to cost you almost $20,000. It's a beautiful space, but if you're a little more budget conscious like me, you may want to consider having your wedding on a Friday instead, its approximately $5,000 less
  • I agree with the other brides here. I think it's much cheaper to do a Friday wedding. I also think the Casa Monica is pricey too. But depending on the size of your guest list and the food and drinks, you may end up meeting the minimum anyway. I'd try to get all the places to give you exact pricing for your wedding and see which one you like the best.
  • Same thing here - I fell in love with the place after going to a co worker's wedding there. We wanted a May wedding and it was about a $20,000 minimum. The website is so deceiving. We were pretty pissed after I had emailed them talking about my budget and they said they could "work with us" and we rushed down there to book the place. My parents just felt uncomfortable with possible hidden expenses too. When I looked at her like she was crazy she responded with the remark about a Friday wedding but we didn't want to do that.

We ended up at Serenata Beach Club. Granted it's not what we originally wanted - a downtown St Augustine reception - but it's RIGHT on the beach and so much cheaper than the white room. Cordel is AWESOME and so upfront with costs and includes fees/taxes in all prices so you don't have any surprises. He told us upfront his job is to make a wedding happen in our budget and if we go over it's basically our own fault bc he can do whatever. It sounds like you have your heart set in that area but if you're open to looking a bit outside of there set up a meeting with Cordel.

  • ps my florist told me vendors hate the white room - its really hard to find parking to bring things in. Make sure you plan well for your guests for parking too! if you're not local you wouldn't know where to park.
