Ok so I was recently told by my fmil that she wants to do family pictures with everybody. As in one of my other post I posted that we weren't really close and so on. After that I started sticking to my guns and putting my foot down. We are now closer than before and working on our relationship. Which I'm happy about. Ok anyways. So she would like family pics. And I'm just not 100 sure if I'm comfortable with that. Ive mentioned it to a couple people and they think that's absolutely crazy and wouldn't do it. What do you guys think? I'm just gonna put my big girl pants on and go for it. What could it hurt?

    It's just family photos. Is there any real reason that this would be a big deal?

    No Im fine wit the pictures. I said I was. Just a little uncomfortable because I dont like pictures. I just didn't understand why others thought that was absolutely crazy. And sorry but yes I can put my foot down about my wedding. And just take he options to heart and choose from there. But that's about my wedding. This is just about a family pictures. Like i said though im just a little confused on why others would think that's crazy.

    This isnt a family pictures for the wedding. This is just a family pictures just to get. Let me clarify that I want family pictures at the wedding.

    I'm so confused. Family pictures are not that big a deal. My grandma asks us to so them every couple of years. It gets a little crazy with 27 people but its fine.

    The day we announced our engagement my FMIL said that she wants all the kids, inlaws and grandbaby together for a family picture. When FBIL and his family are home in August, I can almost promise you, we will be getting together for family photos.

    Way to make a mountain out of a mole hill.  It's a family picture, what is the big deal?  

    I'm also not a fan of getting my picture taken, but in the grand scheme of things it's not a big deal and it makes others happy.






    What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.

    Thanks for the advice. I don't have a problem with pictures just don't like them lol. But I was just confused on why people would think that's crazy. I should have stated that in my original message. Sorry. Um one of the girls that over heard me talking at work to a friend. Said " that's crazy I wouldn't do that. You guys aren't married yet" why would his mom want that. That's insane.. Which I didn't understand why she'd think that. I've already told my fmil id be happy to get pictures. In fact we decided to go shopping together to get new shirts for them.

    Upon opening, I seriously thought this was going to be that you were offended because she wanted pics with just FI and not you. It sounded like it was from an episode I saw of Rules of Engagement.

    You are going to be married. She's considering you part of the family already. Ignore your co-worker.

    I agree your co-worker is the crazy one. I think it's nice that your FMIL would want to include you in the family pictures. Many people don't do family pics all that often, so if they don't do it again for, say, 10 years, then 10 years will go by that you are in the family but not in the picture. 
    What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

    You should just be happy that they want you in it. At FI's sister's wedding, they did a big family photo, I was the only one not in it, and at the time, we were already engaged for a little over a year. So what if they would have told your FI they are doing family photos and you weren't allowed to be in it? How would you feel then?

    My FMIL takes family photos every holiday in her kitchen. The first holiday I spent with them, she asked if I wanted to be in the picture and I declined. After that, she hasn't given me a choice, even when I try to use the "I'm not officially family" argument. Like PPs have said, your coworker is BSC for thinking it is anything but sweet that your FMIL is wanting you in her family pictures.
