I started wondering this after seeing all these young couples, and I'm starting to wonder if my FI and I dating for about 7 years before getting married is a rarity (especially on this board!)
I have been with him a year and a half this time. This is our second go around at dating
He and I were high school sweethearts, broke up for ridiculous high school reasons, and reconnected again after almost 10 years to find out we supposed to be together
We met in HS and maintained a LDR for 5.5 years. We have been together for 6.5 years and our 7 yr anniversary will be 2 months before our Wedding. I joked with FI and said he had 10 yrs and then I would leave. We were by no means the longest in my family 1 Uncle was 10 yrs and My Aunt just got engaged after 14 yrs.
Full Disclosure we did take a 6 month break during our 6.5 yrs.
Dude! So far, I am NOT alone in the dating-a-really-long-time club!
Did anyone else get the "Well, you know... if you've been dating this long... that means he's never going to marry you!" speech from tons of friends, family, and even complete strangers starting at year 3?
FI and I have been together for 5 years last July. By the time we get married, it'll be nearly 6 years. I've got a friend who was with her boyfriend for 11 years before he proposed. I don't think I've got that kind of patience.
I have noticed on the international boards that there are a lot of really young posters, many are still teenagers. Kind of makes me wonder how many of these engagements will actually pan out. I know when I was that age marriage was the last thing on my mind and all the guys I knew back then, well, sucked.
We've been together a little over a year but I honestly knew almost immediately. I've had a few serious relationships but nothing has ever felt this right. Sounds cliche but we've pretty much been inseparable since we met
Our three-year anniversary of dating was on Sunday We got engaged after about 1.5 years of dating, and married just shy of the three-year mark.
ETA: We met and dated for a while about four years ago. We broke up but stayed in touch -- that is when our friendship grew. We decided to give a relationship another go in October 2007, and we both knew within a few weeks that this time it was for real

OMG, we were at a party at FI's boss's house a few years ago. The boss was hammered, and was RELENTLESS in trying to get FI to propose. He kept on offering him more and more to get him to ask me right then and there. I think he got up to $5000, a $2/hr raise, and he personally would DJ the wedding. (He owns a DJ company but hasn't actually DJ'd in YEARS; we tease him about it all the time.) Man, I wish that offer still stood...
Our 5 year in this November & we've been engaged for 4 1/2 years. We knew we were meant for each other, but wanted him to finish school & us to be a little more settled before we took the plunge! It was a long engagement, but seeing where we were then & where we are now, it was worth it! = )
FI and I have been together for 4.5 years. We dated a little our senior year in high school and reconnected 2 years after we graduated. By the time we get married we will have been together for about 5.5 years!
We have been together 3.5 years and we have another year until the wedding. Feels like this is just how it has always been though... I wouldn't have it any other way and I can't really remember life without him.
It was 5 years on our wedding day, but we were engaged after 2.5 years of dating...and had a loooong engagement because of school priorities (he wanted to get his masters out of the way, I wanted to start my doctorate).

That kinda rubs me the wrong way. We are getting married young, and I don't think that somehow decreases my chances of my marriage "panning out."
Anyways, we were only together six months when we got engaged. It was quick, but it was the easiest decision I've ever made. We will be together over two years by the time we get married.
Finished BC and not preventing since June 2010.
Actively trying for baby #1 since July 2011.
SA completed 5/29/2012. No sperm found.
11/12: Dx: Congenital Bilateral Absense of the Vas Deferens.
Genetic Testing needed as this is a mutation of Cystic Fibrosis.
IVF #1 with ICSI planned for 2013.
PAIF/SAIF welcome!
Just this past weekend my FI and I went to his grandparents 50th wedding anniversary. His grandma was 17 and his grandpa was 21 when they got married. They only new each other 3 months before they got married (no she wasn't pregnant lol) and they are still deeply in love. Just thought I'd share that fun fact with everyone...

Awww :) Same with mine except they were 18 and 19 and ran away to California the day after the wedding! My grandfather passed away a few months ago after 67 years of marriage.. My parents were married exactly 11 months after they met and my sister got engaged after 5 months and married 6 months after that. Guess we are an impatient bunch!! :)
We have been together a little over a year. We were engaged after 9 months. By the time we get married we'll have been together a year and 10 months. Oh and we're both 26 years old!
