October 2012 Weddings

Possible outdoor wedding in October??

So I just got engaged this last weekend and it is our hope that we will get married on October 6, 2012.  My Fiance and I are super stoked and really want a fall wedding, but we both really want to get married on Lake Michigan.  Being that it is later in the year, does anyone have any thoughts on this? We are nervous that it will be snowy or really way too cold….We are also on a limited budget so keep that in mind, with any ideas for a reception area….We were thinking Muskegon area because its where we got engaged :J Thanks for any help in advance!

  • You should post this on your local Michigan board. This one is international with brides from all over so I'm afraid I'm of no help in the Michigan area.

  • Congrats on your engagement.  Like Krystle said, you should check your local board too to get some weather advice.

  • We're having an outdoor wedding, but our weddings in Norther New Jersey.  I grew up in upstate New York, and it wouldn't get snowy until the end of the month, but I would do what the PP's suggested, and check your local board.  Good luck! :)

  • Welcome to the October board! Like the PPs said, I would post that on your local board, they would know the best. Congrats on your engagement, and I hope to hear about you planning.

  • I'm from the area.  It's going to be really hit or miss on that.  Yes we've had a super hot summer.  But October can be either one of the hotter months or it could be snowing lol.  Muskegon is a beautiful area.  I'm also an October 6th bride!  I originally wanted an Outdoor wedding but decided that it was too risky for this area.  I say if it's in your budget go for it!! BUT have a back up indoor location.  And CONGRATS on the engagement!!!

  • Thanks so much, I am so stoked!!!  Alisha, I know, its going to be one way or the other, I am so nervous, and I know this year has been totally different so I am kinda of leaning towards not doing it outdoors...uck!

  • Definitely give consideration to having it indoors, especially since the weather can be very unpredictable. Churches often have common rooms or fellowship halls that are  reasonably priced. I think an outdoor wedding in Muskegon could be really beautiful! just make sure you have a backup plan if the weather fails. Best of luck and Congratulations!

  • Congrats and kudos for you for taking on a 3 month engagement!  Woo hoo!  I agree to post on your local board for locations, but head back here and we can help you get up to speed with planning!  Also, I would strongly consider having a back up in case of weather.  I grew up in IA, and I can remember at least 1 or 2 Halloween's with snow on the ground....although you are looking at early Oct.  Good luck!

  • Congrats and I would tell you to look at the Farmers almanac. We are getting married October 7th outside but have a backup plan in case of bad weather (in the past few years we have had a blizzard, ice storm, all right weather and 90's so being that we are having 100's now i'm crossing my fingers for good weather!)

  • Congratulations on your engagement! I don't want to scare you off our board (its a really great board) but are you sure you want to get married THIS October? You're going to have to book all your vendors and find dress(es), invites etc super fast. Some of the October 6th brides already have their invitations out. It CAN be done but I want to give you the reality check of how stressful its going to be for you trying to get everything done in under two months. The girls here are super helpful and can give you cost saving ideas so if you're determined we're here for you. Seriously though take a day to talk to your fiance to figure out how big a wedding you want and how much you can afford. Obviously a small wedding is more doable on such a short time frame. I wish you the best of luck.
