Re: QOTD 10/19

  • FI proposed to me there, and we take our dog for walks around the park a lot.

We originally chose a different venue, but kept finding lots of disappointing reviews so we switched despite losing the deposit.

  • Ceremony - we were in the area checking out a reception venue that ended up being too small, but we loved the outdoor space, so went with it.

Reception - we had a list of about 4 places that were big enough and within budget (well, one wasn't within budget, but it was my dream wedding location).  After looking at per person costs and the space available, we chose the biggest place, which also happened to be the most cost-effective.  And, it's a venue where there is extra space to set up additional activities (bean bag toss, etc).
  • We wanted an outdoor wedding and wanted to cut down on travel. Our venue is pretty much in between where FI's family is and my family is.

It is so pretty and we can do ceremony and reception there :) The part I like the most is that if you walk up a small hill the canal is there so we can take some really pretty pictures by that.

  • It really came down to Money.

First, we figured we would do it at home, but after calculating how much money the house would require to get it "wedding ready", we figured it will be cheaper to just do it at an outside location.

Second, I met with and/or received quotes from about 20 different venues. I narrowed it down to two options.

What made me finally select our venue is that it was relatively close in price (within $500) and they were offering setup, coordination, etc.

  • Well I had this spot I really loved until I got their pricing back. Couldn't be done for less than 20k :( So after a mini breakdown and a talk with my Mom, she told me my Aunt offered her house for the wedding. My Mom was actually remarried there, my Aunt was married there, and a few of my Aunt's friends as well.

The property has really beautiful oak trees, which I love. And I did want an outdoor wedding. She offered it for free and other costs will come down since we can buy our own alcohol. My only real worry now is if it rains because we don't really have a back up plan.

  • FI and I looked at 12 venues before we found ours. Our venue has 2 different locations and they're just up the road from each other. One is at the actual winery and has a "ballroom." The other is up the street at the owner's home and is completely outdoors, the reception would be under a pavilion.

When we went there we were only interested in the outdoor location. But, we didn't like it in persona and the caterer suggested just glancing at the "ballroom."  As soon as we walked in, FI and I both knew it was perfect for us. It's not a typical ballroom, which is what we wanted to stay away from. It has more modern chandeliers that have a touch of rustic to them, a huge stone bar, a stone fireplace, and lots of large windows. I LOVE IT!

  • Originally I wanted to find a venue that we could do the ceremony & reception all in one place. When I started pricing things out I was disappointed to find the room rental fees so high to use a different spot in the building for 1 or 2 hours separate from the reception. We will be having the ceremony at our church. I've been attending since 1999 and it is comfortable and the people there know me. We will only need to pay the pastor donation fee and the janitor fee.

Our reception was a little trickier. There were a couple places within a few miles of church that we checked out. One was a golf club that had a space limitation if we did buffet and I think they also had a food & bev minimum but I can't remember. The other place was a hotel ballroom and the location would have been fine but after being in there just 20 minutes I could still smell cigarette smoke and I had a migraine the rest of the weekend. (no offense to any of you ladies who smoke, I just can't handle it). It was weird because in MN you can't smoke in public buildings but maybe the hotel had smoking rooms or something, I don't know.

We decided on our venue because one side of the room has gorgeous floor-to-ceiling windows and pretty wooded grounds, a waterfall/gazebo area for outdoor pics, etc.

  • I didn't want to have a drive from the ceremony to the reception, and when we saw the pictures of this barn we knew it was the one.  Plus it was the one place my mom didn't have any complaints about, and was perfectly in our budget.

  • We wanted both in the same place and really wanted a barn wedding, however everything was either WAY too expensive or the facilities were not accessable enough for our elderly guests.
Then FI grandmother told us about the golf course and since it was large enough and accesable enough we went with it. Price is about the same as other venus and the landscaping isnt something we will have to worry about.

  • I felt like we looked at every venue in Nashville. Once we found our venue I knew it was it the one. The rose garden was absolutely gorgeous which is where we are having our ceremony and the pavilion where the reception will be held was just as gorgeous. We couldn't have found a more perfect venue for our wedding.

  • For as long as I can remember, I've wanted to be married in the church my parents (and a lot of my aunts and uncles) were married in. It's not the prettiest church I've ever been in but it just feels special. Our guest list is at 300 and it was difficult shopping for a venue to comfortably accommodate everyone. My mother, fiancé, and I saw five venues in one day and the one we chose was the last we were scheduled to see. Most of the other places we had spoken with could 'squeeze' in 300 but I really didn't want a cramped venue. The place we chose can seat 500 for dinner so I am not at all worried about being squished now. Also, it's so different and interesting all three of us immediately fell in love with it.

  • Our ceremony is at the church that we attend (which isn't a traditional boring looking church, it has lots of character and unique things about it, which we loved).
As for the reception, we looked at about 10, and everything was over our price range unless we went with a Friday night, which we preferred to not do. So finally we checked out this last one, and we knew it was the right one from the start. The outside isn't anything amazing, but inside was almost exactly what we were looking for. Plus we got a price for a Saturday night that was cheaper than more of the other places Friday night!

  • We looked at 5 other venues this one beat out Crown Plaza because it was right on the beach otherwise crown plaza was beautiful an the coordinator was amazing during our visit. Pelican Grand where were getting married, was right around same budget. The day we looked at it the original person I had an appt with for the tour had quit an the replacement didn't know about me. But she was awesome took her time with us showed us lots of photo albums. When we walked out of the venue fi looked at me and said this is where I see us getting married lol. If this place wasn't gorgeous we would have gone with Crown. Our coordinator Responds to my tons of emails within 24 hrs. I have them on my fb and there always posting pics it's really beautiful an breathtaking an Fi loves it.
  • Ceremony-it is the church my Fi went to growing up as well as my stepmother.
Reception-Fi had a work lunch there (it is a business club) and decided to take me there just to check it out.  I fell in love with the view of downtown from the 36th floor and the overall vibe.  He didn't expect me to love it!

  • I really wanted to get married near the ocean.  I'm a lifelong NE girl, so I felt it was appropriate.  This was the place near the water that was a) big enough b)the right price c) was modern and new d) had plenty of parking e) had indoor ceremony space f) had great ocean views g) had stationed meals available with plenty of vegatarian options and were willing to provide an Indian dish

  • It just was us. We have a visited a few other venues but as soon as we went to ours we knew that was where we wanted to get married. FI's mom was on the board of where our ceremony and reception will be and since she passed away 4 years ago this is kind of a cool way of incorporating her into our wedding.

  • I love it's urban quality. I'm a huge sucker for old red brick buildings. My FI is an architect, and he approved of the architecture, so I snagged it up as quick as I could! It was also pretty cheap.
