Non-Canadian same sex couples- don't come to Canada to get married- your marriage won't be valid

Cuz if you do, you can't get divorced. Unless you live in a place where same sex marriages are recognied and can get divorced where you live.

As if I didn't hate our stupid Prime Minister enough already!

    How did this even become an issue anywhere? How is it anyone's business who marries who? Or is it whom? Oh well. People suck.

    I will never understand why gay marriage is an issue. As long as all parties involved are over 18 I don't see a reason why anyone should be denied the right to marry.  Harper makes me sick.

    I actually just had a discussion about same sex marriage with my father this morning. Usually, we do not see eye to eye at all. I'm very pro same sex marriage. However, he brought up a good point that I did not know how to answer.

    Scenario: A same sex married couple has a child. Only one is the biological father/mother. What happens when/if they divorce? Custody laws state that the biological parent does. However, what happens when the non-biological parent claims they are also a parent and should share custody?

    Just a question I have. Please don't attack me!

    The second parent can adopt the child and in  that case it would not be an issue. The two parents would have joint custody, or whatever they figured out. It would be the same as if a single parent married someone and that person adopted their child and was their parent. At divorce the child would legally be both parents' child.

    The single mom analogy is a really good way to illustrate this too. The new dad can adopt the children. So why can't the new mom adopt the kids if the biological mom happens to be a lesbian?

    I don't know how the current system is for those not in a legal marriage trying to adopt, but I'd imagine they make it more difficult since that's how most things play out.</div>
