Gerber Daisy Bouquets

Hi all!

I am using gerber daisies in the wedding ceremony and reception. I have everything decided on, but I am having trouble deciding how many I need for each bouquet. I need 2 bridesmaid ones and then my bridal. At first I thought 7 for each girl and then 11 for mine. However, I just heard that because of how thick the stems are 8 is more than enough because the base might be too thick to hold onto.

I want mine to be big and full, but I'd like to be able to hold onto it too! :)

How many do you all think would work? I have seen pictures of all different amounts. I am ordering my flowers from a local market and making everything myself.

Thank you (ahead of time)!

I have tiny hands so what is too thick for me may be just fine for someone with regular hands.   Treat yourself to two dozen flowers and do a test run.  Invite your BMs over too see what is just right for the size of their hands too.  Gerberas are a beautiful flower.  With the thought that you are putting into it and a test run or two, you will have a beautiful bouquet.

I'd say get a dozen too, then you can play with it yourself. I'm thinking about doing my own bouquet too and would like gerber daisies, are you following some directions online somewhere?

I'm planning to use Gerberas also!  Still trying to decide if I should do them myself or have someone else do them just to save the hassle.

I have watched a few videos on youtube that explain how to do it. I just want to order  the right number for the day. I don't have the money to order extra flowers. I guess if I have to I will order a few more than I think for the wedding and then I will have them if I need them. They are $2 a stem, so I'd rather not waste any.

Maybe I can just try some stuff out at the Farmer's Market I'm getting them from..

You can usually find gerberas at the grocery store for a lot cheaper (they are 5 for $4 at mine), to do the test, even if they aren't the exact color you want. I am actually having the floral dept. there order mine for the wedding too! Same price!

I went this afternoon and try out different bouquet sizes at our farmer's market.
I am going to use 9 in each of my Matrons of Honor bouquets and 15 in mine.  The stems also already had wires on them to help hold the stems. The bundle wasn't really that large at all. My market is going to let me order them by color name. The link below is the best site I have found with the actual names and pictures of each. Hope it can help someone out!

I work in a flower shop and it's not that easy to bouquets with Gerber daisys so you should try it out first to make sure that it turns out the way you like it

EVERYBODY IN THE DIY FRAME OF MIND... please do a test run... Gerbers aren't that easy to work with... If not properly handled and refrigerated they can drop their heads at the blink of an eye.
To guarantee against that they come in plastic tubes but when you take them off sometimes its blam drop...
When you try to manipulate them they aren't cooperative and the stems can easily snap.
So professionals know you have to wire and tape them to keep all that from happening and that is a ton of work and takes a lot of practice.
There is a huge potential stress factor so just know what you are getting into before you start... fun yes, but a day before your wedding maybe not so much...
    just sayin

Amen to midgemoto--- TEST OUT YOUR IDEAS w/ gerbers. I struggled myself when working with them, so be sure you know what you're doing ahead of time! :)

    kerrib,
If you are making your own bouquets I would advise going to a local market. They were super helpful. They gave me tips on how to work with them and I was able to stand and practice with their flowers right there. I'm planning on having my sisters come 2 days before the wedding to work on ours together. That way, if we end up having a flower become damaged we will be able to get replacements. (because they carry tons of gerberas normally)
Also, make sure you have a fidge available. (which I'm sure you knew already.) My church has a few huge fridges, so we will be able to store them until the wedding Saturday morning. My market already puts the wires on the stems, so check for that too. I was worried about having to wire my own so I'm very glad this is going to be done for me.
Good luck! Check out youtube also! There is a great video by the owner of Lily of the Valley florist in CA.
