Non-Traditional Dessert Options

Morning Ladies. Our original plan was to get yummy cupcakes from a bakery up the road as opposed to a traditional wedding cake, but they've been closed for renovations since April and I have NO clue when they're reopening so I'm starting to think of other plans. I still don't think we want the traditional wedding cake, and we have some beautiful vintage cup cake stands that we'd still like to use. Now I'm thinking of picking up a variety of desserts, like squares, cupcakes, mini cheese cakes, turnovers, pinwheels, etc.

Question is: Would you find it strange to go to a wedding where there is no cake at all? Would you like this or hate it?

    I like the idea. As long as the desserts are yummy I wouldn't have any problem with it. One of my friends didn't have cake instead they did desserts from their countries. She was German and he was Italian so they did baklava and cannolis. It was awesome!

    I know my FI would love having other things besides cake!  He doesn't like cake or cupcakes, and really appreciates when weddings have a variety of desserts. 

    I say go for it, it will make your wedding memorable and like PP said if they're yummy nobody will really care that there isn't a traditional cake! :)

    I've been to do many weddings with terrible cake so I say go for it. As long as there IS dessert and it's not something weird that not many people would like, I say go for it.

    I've been to 8 weddings and of which I've had cake at 1. I say go for the different kinds of desserts. We are having a small ice cream cake, cupcakes, cheese cake desserts and a candy buffett.

    My friend who was married in Sept had no wedding cake at all. She had a table of deserts with french pastries and they cut into a cheescake. It wasn't weird at all.

    I love dessert.  With the selection you're planning though I think you'll be fine to do without cake. 

    Are you planning on cutting a cupcake or just skipping that whole part?

    We're skipping it, along with the bouquet toss, garter toss, first dances, and formal speeches. It's just not us :)

    I've been to a few weddings with no cake and it wasn't weird at all.....I almost like it better cause I'm not much of a cake eater anyways.

     We're not having one because dessert is part of the package from our venue (pineapple creme brulee.....yummmm)....we thought about doing a decorative one just so we can cut the cake but in the end, we just took it out altogether.

    In addition to cake, we're offering a Viennese tray filled with canolis, chocolate covered strawberries, and Italian cookies.  Not everyone likes cake!  I think you'll be fine offering different desserts, as long as your guests have something for their sweet tooth!

    Viennese tables are pretty common I would say.

    I think it's more and more common to not have cake, especially since cakes are crazy expensive!  I would be totally okay with a bunch of different dessert options :)

    I don't think its strange, but if you really like cupcakes, why not check out other bakeries? We are doing an assortment of cupcakes from a grocery store bakery and its a fraction of the cost that we'd have spent at a more specialty shop.
