jewlery store recommendations (NoVa)?

My BF and I went shopping for e-rings last Friday for the first time.  We went to the mall, because I didn't know where else to go.  We looked at Helzberg, Zales, and DeBeers and saw some things I liked, and one I really loved, but we want to keep looking.  I've heard people say local, non-chain stores can be great, but I'm just not familiar with any in my area (Alexandria).  Can anyone recommend something in NoVa?

I highly recommend igorman Jewelers in DC. They have unique designs and superior customer service. We bought all of our rings there.

Wow!  Some of those are really wild!  There are some that I really love, though, so I'll have to check it out. - thanks for the rec!  Price-wise, did you find it reasonable?

We had great luck with blue nile for wedding bands - it's not a local store but worth looking into: http://www.bluenile.com/

I did look at Blue Nile and have heard nothing but great things about them.  I found a couple that I liked, but when I tried similar styles on in the store, I didn't like them so much, so I'm trying to do this in person.

We didn't use them but I heard that May Jewelers is a great place:

sing2phins - I did the opposite.  Looked in person for the style and then purchased on blue nile.  Found a wedding band for a 1/3rd of the price that I found in person.

    Good luck hunting :)

We went to Aspen Jewelers for my wedding band, and they're great and very reasonably priced.  They're in Herndon.

Bella Diamonds in Gainesville has a pretty good selection.  They have some pretty pricey stuff but have done pretty big mark-downs recently.

before we got engaged, FI and i went looking at all the regular places too but then we came across Finks Jewelers at Dulles Town Center. not only was the sales guy extremely helpful but the diamonds were gorgeous and way better quality than the larger chain stores. they are a smaller chain in the mid-atlantic region. i think they have two or three stores in VA and then two or three in north/south carolinas.

FI ended up buying my ring from there and despite our planner's attempts to keep us on budget, we'll probably end up going back there for our wedding bands, lol. they're a bit on the pricey side but i think well worth it.

I would highly recommend Quest Jewelers also - questjewelers.com.. they're located on Lee Highway in Fairfax.  My FI got my engagement ring custom made from them and we're also getting our wedding bands there.  The salespeople are the owners and are extremely knowledgeable and friendly (Pete and Huan, they're brothers.. and Huan is actually the designer, too).  Honestly, they may be on the pricey side, however they will do price matching.  I priced my wedding band at Quest and then found basically the same ring on Blue Nile for $600 less and they gave me the Blue Nile price for a custom-made design.  We've really had a great experience there!  GL!

We got mine at the Tiffany's in Tysons. It's obviously a chain, but the service is impeccable. If you see something you like in-store but would like something similar for less or if you want a different size stone, they can order the ring from any of their stores, and it will arrive in only a few days. We worked with Francine, and she is great!

Also, check out Mervis. They have multiple show rooms in the DC area, including Tysons. Their prices are very reasonable.

I recommend Charleston Alexander in Falls Church. I searched all over because i was having my ring made from my grandma's stones. They not only have an in house jeweler but they have a HUGE selection of really amazing rings. Good luck!

My e-ring is from Mervis in Tysons.  Our salesman (Arnie) was extremely knowledgeable and helped answer all of our questions.  I told him styles I liked and he showed me 4 or 5 rings.  I narrowed it down to 2 and my fiance chose from there.

I've been back for cleanings and sizing questions, and have been treated great everytime!  We plan on getting both our wedding bands from them.
