DVC Rentals?

Has anyone rented DVC points for a honeymoon at a Disney resort?  We plan on going to Disney World for ours and I thought it would be super expensive to get a nice room.  I heard abut DVC point rentals and inquired on one of the websites.  It almost seems too good to be true since we would save about $3,500 on the hotel and a little bit on the tickets.  The lady from the website emailed me back promptly and said that we could move forward with booking the trip 11 or 7 months out (I guess that's when points become available to the members).  Has anyone ever done this?  I know this can be done with time shares and vacation clubs... so any advice would be helpful.  We won't book until April because we want to get the best deal.  I just want to make sure I choose the most reliable site with the best value, etc.

    not sure when you wedding date is - but there may be limitations on when they can be used - only certain places may be available at certain times or the amount of points may increase -   I am not speaking from any experience though - just know even with the vacation club there are a lot of caveats

    A few years ago my family was looking into getting a Disney Vacation Club membership. You start with a homebase; at the time the newest DVC property was Saratoga Springs, which is awesome and beautiful, but a Florida homebase seemed like the wrong choice for us since we live in AZ and are closer to Disneyland. DVC is a great concept, but keep in mind that the members' whose homebase is the resort you are looking at get first dibs. Also, points do expire, so you would need to take a Disney vacation every couple of years at least. The benefits of DVC are awesome, as long as you can handle the upfront cost and long term commitment. My fiance and I will definitely be getting one later on in our marriage.

    </div><div>To the OP, I have never rented. I have heard good things from people who have. You can defnitely save a lot. Most people I've seen renting points rent them for $10-$12 each. What website are you going through? You need to be sure of the person you are renting from because they will be booking everything for you from what I understand.     <div>I've looked into dvcrequest.com and dvcrentalstore.com so far since we do not have to book it until Feb. 13 (the trip would be Nov. 13).  The going rate seems to be $12 a point which does not seem bad at all!  I'm just worried about a DVC Member backing out once I've purchased their points... don't know how they would work because even if I got a refund, it would ruin the honeymoon plans.  But, then again, I may be overthinking it!</div>
