Married Ladies...How long did it take to change your name??

I am getting married on October 17th and will return from my honeymoon on the 26th. We are looking into buying tickets for Thanksgiving and not sure if we should book mine under my married or maiden name. I'll have exactly 4 weeks. Is this enough time?
Thanks!

I haven't done this yet, but I would suggest to think strongly about the fact that there is always a chance something in your process could go wrong that others didn't have to deal with, and the process could get held up.  It took me over a month just to get my NC drivers license when I moved here and had to keep going back and forth between the DMV and the SS office -- sooo I guess what I'm saying is even if others say it only took them a week, just be aware that something could o wrong and your flight could be impactedif you book in your married name!  Maybe wait until after Thanksgiving to change just to be safe!

The process goes something like this:
-Pastor mails in your marriage license after your wedding
-The Register of Deeds, where ever the license is from, gets it and mails you the certified original (and any copies)
-You take the marriage license and all the other required stuff to the SS office
-SS office gives you a piece of paper saying you did change your name, actual SS card mailed to you
-Take paper from SS office to DMV with marraige license and all the other papers
-DMV gives you a piece of paper that is your temporary license and your actual license with the married name is mailed to you

So like pp said, with all the stuff being mailed, and having to go to all the different offices there are lots of places for things to go wrong.  So I'd agree with pp to book in your madien name.  You can go ahead and do the whole name change thing and just use your old license (or maybe your new license as long as you're keeping your maiden name in there somewhere and your marriage license?) at the airport.

Yea, we got our license about a week & 2 days after the wedding. I went to the SS office yesterday and they said I should get my card in the mail in 2 weeks.

If it's not an international flight, and your current driver license won't be expired, you could book with your maiden name and use that as your ID.  Even if you begin the name-change process you just need your ticket and your ID to match.

I had to rush the process because we were closing on our house 2 weeeks after we got back from our HM (and I wanted my new name on all the papers).  One thing I did is took the signed marriage license from the pastor on the wedding day.  Then, while I was on my HM, my Mom took the completed license to the Register of Deeds, waited about 10 minutes, and left with a certified copy. This avoids having to wait for the mail.  Then the day after I got back from my HM, I went to the SS office, and the next day the DMV.   Could be an option if you really need to rush it.

I just got back from CA today, I had to go for business and I didn't change my name before going. I didn't think I'd have enough time and everyone told me just not to risk it. So, I'm starting the process today.

When mine came in I just had the 2 certified copies, not the original one. Does it come later?

We got two copies also, and never got anything other than that... I guess the original stays on file with the ROD.
