Rice / birdseed holders

My friend told me they went to a wedding where the rice was in this flower holder. You held it by the stem, and when flung, the rice would come out of the bud on top. Has anyone seen something like this? Thanks.

Re: Rice / birdseed holders

  • I haven't heard of them, but before you invest you might want to talk to your venue first. Even though it is bird seed and not harmful to animals most of it is made out of weed seed. Whatever doesn't get eaten may eventually take root where it lands. It becomes a hassle and extra money involved for the venue to get rid of it. Because of this our venue doesn't allow bird seed.
  • I haven't seen those, either, but please do not throw rice. It is bad for some animals.

  • interesting. we did birdseed at a wedding i just went to and they had them in organza bags. i didnt throw mine because there was a row of people in front of me, and i didn't want to accidentally get them seed-covered.

personally i think its a lot of mess, and there are better options. if you're set on it, then make sure your venue has an area to accommodate it. the flower holders or bags would work fine. =)

    Well, not really. http://www.snopes.com/critters/crusader/birdrice.asp

But it still makes a big mess, even outside.

There is nothing wrong with rice. Rice is perfectly digestable for animals to eat. This is a myth that birds explode. Let's not perpetuate this myth. Rice is banned from some venue because if you walk on wet rice you can slip and fall.

  • I know this is an old post, but this would be the product.
