I couldn't go to the MN state fair this year (because of school) and I had heard quite a bit about the new mashed potatoes on a stick. Looks sooo yummy!
When you love someone, you can tell. When you're in love with someone, everyone else can tell.
KD, my boyfriend's father was at that state fair! I'm jealous. I've never been to a State Fair... I've already looked up and found out that Florida's State Fair is in February, so I've already made my boyfriend promise we'll drive up to Tampa for it!
Yummy fried goodness! Mmmm! I did go to a BBQ place this weekend on our way back from snorkeling - awesome day, topped with slow roasted brisket.
Our obsession with deep frying everything scares me..lol. I remember the deep fried twinkie started all this other madness it seems..I mean it looks awesome , but I think I gained 20 lbs just LOOKING at this post , lol
For the fair here, the deep fried twinkie came well into the deep frying madness. I am really not into deep fried foods. That was the only deep fried food that I ate.
However, what I found that I LOVE is apple cinnamon wine ice cream!! Oh man was that to die for!!!!!
I'mq with you Loppy, I'm not that into deep fried foods either... however that deep friend manicotti got me. It's like a cross between manicotti and fried cheese sticks... OH MY GOODNESS!
Wow! I agree with PPs, they're deep frying EVERYTHING now (those potatos look mighty good though). Deep fried butter (?!?!?!?!) at the Toronto Ex and deep fried beer in Calgary were the newest ones I had heard of.

Wouldn't the butter melt? Maybe you freeze it first.
I really can't eat too much fried food anymore--it makes me queasy. But the fried mashed potatoes sound really good. I really wanted a corn dog yesterday at the beach. I was thinking, if I got some veggie corn dogs at Trader Joe's, could I pay them to just throw them in the deep fryer for me?
I went to a Japanese fusion place one that had tempura fried Brie. Sounds weird, but it was really good.
Ooh thanks for posting that Hazel! I hadn't seen that article before, and I actually had been wondering how on earth you'd deep fry the butter without it melting. It kinda makes sense, I guess (although, really, who would come up with that in the first place?)

ETA: FI and I went to the NY State Fair with his brother and Dad. We tried Deep Fried Manicotti on a Stick:
And Deep Fried Grilled Cheese:

The mashed potatoes were cheddar bacon, so there was bacon.
I also had a hot dog that had peanut butter on the bun and topped with bacon and sliced bananas. That was crazy, but it was kind of good.

Making home made mozzerella sticks is a way to have the cheese sticks without having them deep fried.
