November Wedding Month/Reception Venues!?

Hello all!
Newly engaged and have a question about reception venues in Virginia Beach! I am trying to keep the cost down and so far the best/cheapest place I've found is Shifting Sands on Dam Neck base. Has anyone had their reception there lately? Good experience/bad? Anyone have ideas about other reception locations that are at a comparable price?
Also-- has anyone in this area had their wedding in November.. I can't remember what the weather is exactly like-- do you think its way too late to still have bridesmaids in short dresses versus floor length dresses?
Thanks for any opinions at all!

The Lesner Inn in VA Beach is a very nice venue & the coordinator is really nice & accomodating. The prices are very good. The biggest room is $875 I think & the menu prices are competitive.

Imo, it might be too cold in November for short bm dresses, but you never know. Sometimes it can be 75 degrees in December. And that was years ago & one week before Christmas. However, if is an inside venue it should be fine.

I'm having my wedding at the Shifting Sands in November =) We're using the main dining room and it is gorgeous. I'm pretty sure the venue staff is a lot more hands off than other places but you can't beat the price (especially since November will get you an off season rate). Two of my bridesmaides are wearing short dresses (their own choice) but since it's inside I'm sure all will be fine. Also, since you are trying to keep price down Astro DJs does offer a Military discount to those having their wedding at the Shifting Sands. Choosing the 1-5 time slot instead of the 7-11 will also keep prices down. Happy planning!
  • Do you know roughly what the rate is for shifting sands? I am getting married early december so I need an inside venue.
  • It depends on your meal options , but December would be considered off season so the minimum food spending amount ($5000) is waved. Our costs were under that.
