  I would say maybe just tell them jewelery is taken care of, but surprise them later on by letting them know that you made it. If it's going to be your bridesmaid gift, maybe do something to personalize it, like adding a charm that would have some meaning to them, or getting/making them a jewelery roll that's personalized in some way.
  
  Also, that's a great idea! I'm sure they're going to love wearing something that was handmade by you.

  I voted for other.  I think that you should keep it a surprise unless they ask specifically or you know that they're going to go looking.  With your idea that you' wouldn't care if they didn't wear it to the wedding, you're going to probably have to tell them your ideas for what they should wear.  Most Bridesmaids want to make sure that they look how you want them to for your pictures, etc.

  I agree with pp, don't mention it until they ask and just say "it's covered" or "I haven't decided yet, we'll figure it out later"

  I voted for yes, tell them, but I wouldn't tell them what it is or that you made it - just let them know they don't need to worry about finding something themselves. 
  
  I am telling my bridesmaids for a couple of reasons - first, I am only getting them necklaces, so I want them to know that.  And second, the necklaces are yellow gold, and my bridesmaids don't always wear gold, so I wanted them to be aware in advance.

  I voted for not telling them, since it doesn't matter to you if they wear it or not for the ceremony.  But if one of them mentions looking for jewelry, I'd mention that you've got it covered, and leave it at that so you can surprise them later.  I'd only be specific if one of them has an allergy to the materials you're using, like certain metals for chain/findings.
  
  I'm also making the jewelry for everyone, but it's already assumed I will since they know I do this as a cottage business.  They have so much jewelry from me already.

  If you were requiring them to wear it at the wedding, I would have voted for telling them, but you said they could wear it or not, so I voted for not telling. I'm getting my BM necklaces as well. I've only told my MOH because she asked, I said that I was getting them all a necklace, but they didn't have to wear it for the wedding, and left it at that. If they want to wear something else, that's perfectly fine with me!

  I wouldnt tell them. I just had a BM ask (and i am giving them jewelry) and I just told her that I am not planning on having them get jewelry - which is 100% true if it is about them getting it as I am getting it for them

  I voted yes tell them but don't tell em you made it.  I would keep that a surprise.  I am thinking about making necklaces because I have this idea and can't seem to find it anywhere!  I told em simply not to worry about necklaces and left it at that.
