Makeup Trial

Hi Ladies!

I found my makeup artist and am plannin on booking her soon.  She suggested I do my trial as soon as possible, since her policy is normally to book after the trial.  I am very pale right now, and I intend on tanning on before the wedding both for the color as well as to not burn on the honeymoon.  My question is, does it sound crazy to have the makeup trial 4 months before the wedding?  She did mention that tanning wouldn't be a big deal if I wasn't going more than a shade darker...she would just match my skin tone the day of.  Has anyone done this before?  When did you ladies have your makeup trial?

Re: Makeup Trial

  • I'm essentially doing mine tomorrow for my bridal portraits... 3 weeks out. I'm really not sure what is normal, though.
  • I actually had my trial 4 months before my wedding because that was the slow season here so my MUA had plenty of time.  Also if you don't like it, that gives you plenty of time to find someone else.

Good point!  I am mostly concerned with matching the makeup to my tan, but I don't think it will be too hard for her because her clientelle is a wide variety of different ethnicites based on her pictures.  Thanks ladies!

  • She will match your foundation that day, don't worry. It is just to give you an idea on how dark of make up you like on your eyes, etc. Make sure you wear a white or ivory shirt when you go.
  • You should probably do your makeup trial soon.  Most MUAs that I've encountered require you to sign a contract and leave a small deposit to hold your date.  You probably don't want to do that unless you have a trial and know you like it.

If you wait till it gets weeks out from the wedding, you risk the MUA being booked by someone else.  And even if she is available, what if you hate it?  Now you're only weeks out and you have to scramble to find someone else?

  • I did mine about 6 months prior because I teach and it was during my spring break. I'm super happy I did because I HATED it. I decided to do it myself the day of and I've had a lot of time to practice.
