Save the dates

I was thinking about sending out save the dates but im not sure when to send them. Someone told me six months before the wedding, but the seems almost pointless to send them then. Anybody have any ideas?

Re: Save the dates

  • I've sent mine out at 9 months before the wedding...we had a bunch of out of town guests and our wedding day also falls on Memorial Day weekend, so we wanted to make sure, they are aware that our wedding is coming up...

  • I sent mine out at about the 7/6 month mark. I had a few out of town guest, and my wedding is on a holiday weekend. so I felt like I had to send them. If you don't have that many out of town guest, if your wedding is not on a holiday, or an off day like a Friday or Sunday. I don't think you need to send them at this point unless you just want to.

I"ve heard 6-8 months depending on if you have alot of out of town guests who need to make plans. I think we'll end up sending them out closer to 6 months

This exactly.  If you are having a destination wedding.. a lot of out of town guest.. or a holiday weekend wedding I would send a little earlier but 6-8 is the norm.

Also remember.. Only send Save the Dates to those you are 100% positive you will still have a relationship come the wedding.. so many girls on the other boards regret some save the dates they have sent out!
  • I sent mine out at the 8 month mark. We have a significant number of OOT guests. I only sent them to the OOTers and a small number of guest list definites.

We sent ours out 8 months before, but ours are Phillies themed and we wanted to get them out before baseball officially started. Actually, I would have liked to send them sooner, around 9 months before, but we were waiting on our Engagement session photos to come back.
FSIL sent hers out one year before. Depends on how many OOT guests you will have and what kind of save the dates you are doing. Just because some website says 6 months before doesn't mean you have to stick to that! I would definitely do a bit sooner than six months. Definitely if you are having a Friday or Sunday wedding. Some people need to request their off days way in advance. My parents both have to put them in in January for the entire year.

You could just set up a blog and send a note to all your OOT guests.  Or just buy a few or make your own. My daughter got hers from one of the online vendors, wasn't vista print, might have been snapfish, they weren't too expensive and we have about half our guest coming from OOT so needed them. Her wedding is next Feb and just sent them now. Just be aware if you are ordering online that the color you see on your computer monitor may not be the TRUE color.
