  • Have you ever been in a bridezilla's wedding party? She wasn't a bridezilla, but she was stressing out her bp. And she promised us all hair and makeup and when we got there, we had to shell out the money. She even picked out our hairstyles.
Has a bride ever made you buy a specific type of shoe?Nope
what ideas did you 'steal' from someone else's wedding? My blue shoes.
List one faux pas that you commited and may not have known until afterwards: I wrote black tie optional on my invite which is bad.....and then my bridesmaids were in cocktail length dresses in the middle of the day. I still feel bad when a new girl asks about this and I know that I didn't do it right.

  • Have you ever been in a bridezilla's wedding party?

No, but the last one had mom-zilla and FMIL-zilla and MOH-zilla and I thought I was going to have to drug them all (or me) to make it through...

Has a bride ever made you buy a specific type of shoe?
Nope, and when I was MOH, I didnt even buy a dress.. I borrowed one from the bride. We were broke college students and didn't care.

what ideas did you 'steal' from someone else's wedding?

I wanted to steal lots of ideas from my friend's wedding in April, but we haven't yet. She had a Tapas menu that included chicken skewers, PB&J sandwiches, lots of hummus and veggies, and about any other small bite you can think of in between. Her cake was actually 3 mousse cakes with lady fingers standing up along the perimeter to hold all the mousse in, with different flavors for each cake. That is very similar to a Romanian cake that we love (Tort Diplomat), so it may still happen.

I don't know, but I'm sure there will be one.. or more. I will try not to of course, but no one is perfect.

  • Have you ever been in a bridezilla's wedding party? Nope, I've only ever been a FG and Jr BM

Has a bride ever made you buy a specific type of shoe? N/A

what ideas did you 'steal' from someone else's wedding? Nothing specific, although I've definitely taken inspiration of general things I like from photos. For our CA party, I'm more or less copying the idea of my cousin's reception - family member's backyard (different place!) with a nice buffet - but mine will be less formal because it's not my actual wedding.

List one faux pas that you commited and may not have known until afterwards: Didn't ask my BMs for their budget. They agreed the dresses I was looking at (under $200) were fine, but that was in response to me saying "here are things I like, is this ok?" rather than asking for individual budgets beforehand. Luckily it's fine, I think they all expected to pay around this amount anyway, but I do feel a little bad about it.
  • Have you ever been in a bridezilla's wedding party?
    Nope

Has a bride ever made you buy a specific type of shoe?
I've been asked to.  Some girls did, others didn't and that was no big deal to her.  She also knew I was planning on bringing flip flops for the reception (which was fine - she planned on going barefoot herself and her DH was advising guests to bring more casual clothes for a farm BBQ reception).

what ideas did you 'steal' from someone else's wedding?
The idea that shoes don't have to be white.  Also having a heavy hors d'oeuvres reception - my aunt had one when I was in high school and I remember it being fun and I was stuffed by the end.  I get really bored at sit down dinners.

List one faux pas that you commited and may not have known until afterwards:
Asking WP too early - partly because we pushed our wedding back, partly because I was clueless.

  • Have you ever been in a bridezilla's wedding party?  Nope!

Has a bride ever made you buy a specific type of shoe?  My sister wanted us in pink shoes.  I ended up borrowing a pair that didn't fit anyway, because I hate pink and didn't want to shell out for shoes I'd never wear again.

what ideas did you 'steal' from someone else's wedding?  Most of my great wedding ideas came from someone or another on Offbeat Bride.  I'm shameless.

List one faux pas that you commited and may not have known until afterwards:  I asked way too early, and sent my BMs a long initial email detailing all the wedding plans.  Oops.  I've cooled it since then.

This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • Have you ever been in a bridezilla's wedding party?
Nope.  I've been a BM in a tack-fest wedding, but she was cool with us.

Has a bride ever made you buy a specific type of shoe?
Yes.  In my college roommate's wedding.  Our dress budget was about $150, and we ended up with an Ann Taylor dress for under $50, so she had us buy shoes.  They were about $30, and we didn't mind b/c of the money.  But they hurt so bad.  I barely made it through the 5 minute ceremony and pictures.  I think a few of us were barefoot in a couple of the pictures.

what ideas did you 'steal' from someone else's wedding?
I stole a lot of things from random knotties: sparklers, flip flops, etc.

List one faux pas that you commited and may not have known until afterwards:
I asked BMs too early.  And when I first asked them, I told DH to go find 4 guys.  Then I took a deep breath and realized that was stupid.

  • Have you ever been in a bridezilla's wedding party?
Nope, I've never been part of a wedding party, but I doubt any of my friends have any bridezilla in them.

Has a bride ever made you buy a specific type of shoe?
    n/a

what ideas did you 'steal' from someone else's wedding?
When I was really young, maybe 8 or so, I went to my aunt's wedding.  She had is in a building that had huge windows and a deck and I really wanted to have that open feel too.

I also copied a lot of things from random knotties, esp from TDiddy2

List one faux pas that you commited and may not have known until afterwards:
I did a few, I asked my bm too early (which wasn't a big deal and was only a couple months before I should have).  I didn't ask all of them their budget (I just assummed that the could all afford the $50 dress).  I did let everyone know that if they needed help with the dress, to talk to me, so I guess I kind of redeemed myself.  I didn't ask for input on the dress, I just picked one (basically I wanted a tea-length dress with straps, of which DB had one style).  I did buy them all pearl necklaces for their gifts, but later found this site and I felt so guilty about it, that I returned them all.  It had been so long, I lost $40 out of it, but I felt soooo much better.

As far as the guest list goes, I invited a couple mother-daughter pairs from my old Girl scout troop, but not their husbands and finaces.  Oops. Undecided

Repeat this to your self: My Wedding Party is made of my family and friends and I should treat them as such.
  • Have you ever been in a bridezilla's wedding party?
They wern't really mean bridezilla about it. But the weddings I was in, I was expected to do ALOT.

Has a bride ever made you buy a specific type of shoe? No, and honestly if it was a high heel, I would have a fit. I'm normally a very easy going person, but I draw the line at heels.  I'm clumsy, a 3 inch heel would be horrible.

What ideas did you 'steal' from someone else's wedding? I stole my best friends cake lady, I don't know if that counts.

List one faux pas that you commited and may not have known until afterwards: When I first started planning I thought I was supposed to go out and pick out the dresses for the bridesmaids without their input, because honestly, thats what was always done to me. Good thing I found this board, I'd much rather have everyone be comfortable in something they picked out themselves.

Oh, and I asked my wedding party pretty early too, because I had no clue.

  • Have you ever been in a bridezilla's wedding party?
I've been in the WP of a bride who changed from being the most relaxed, laid back person in the world to someone who had to have everything "just right."  I was and still am shocked.  She wasn't quite a bridezilla but came dangerously close, especially with her email basically calling us drunks and saying we weren't allowed to start drinking until after her elderly relatives left...even though everyone was a two-drink maximum type of gal.
Has a bride ever made you buy a specific type of shoe?
Thankfully, no :)  The most specific direction has been the color of shoe.
what ideas did you 'steal' from someone else's wedding?
We mostly stole ideas of at what not to do from other peoples' weddings, like not making our guests wait to start the reception while we take photos, not skimping on food in favor of a chocolate fountain, and not only getting enough seats for half the guests so that people would "have to mingle".
List one faux pas that you commited and may not have known until afterwards:
I've brought uninvited guests (not realizing that weddings are paid per person) and left before dinner (but in my defense, the bride and groom were still taking photos after nearly two hours so we just decided to skip out).

  • I know it's older, but I wanted to "play" this one, lol:

Have you ever been in a bridezilla's wedding party?
Yes, my BSC friend. It actually started out OK, but about 4 months in (She asked everybody over a year out) she booted one of the girls who was OOT for not getting the dress (Which, the local BMs hadn't even seen the dress at that point, so I'm thinking there was more to that), she picked orange dresses because she wanted orange and yellow as her colors (Because she never heard of anybody using them before, and she was going to be "original"), and when we got measured, a few girls tried to tell her they didn't like the (mac 'n cheese) shade of orange, to which the bride said "Well, nobody actually looks good in orange. Now buy the damn dress or you're out". She made me order a size 10 (Like in the store, in front of everybody, she flat out said "If you don't order this size, you're out"), even though I only needed a 6 ...which when  the dress came in and I needed alterations, she went off on this rant about how she told me to get a dress that fit, but I was insisting on the size 10 "in case I gained weight" (I've never had trouble maintaining my weight, so this never would have crossed my mind). She also proceeded to tell everybody and their mother (This came back to me through several people) whenever her dress size/alterations came up, she would quickly brush over those details and then say "Did you hear that Megk needed a size 10? Omg, I know!  But you know, she's been having so much trouble with her weight lately that I just couldn't risk her not fitting into the dress". I was also just engaged during her planning process, so she kept telling me she was going to help me so much with mine because she "knew how to plan an affordable and elegant wedding". Her parents wrote every single check from the first deposit to the final HM payment, and pretty much picked out everything except the color scheme and the BP flowers, so yeah, her wedding was "affordable", because she, personally, didn't pay a dime.

Has a bride ever made you buy a specific type of shoe?
BSC gave us matching shoes as our "gift". The only other gift was the matching jewelry. She also required pro hair and nails, but told us "Well, since I'm not picking what you do for your hair or nails (Just the place you will get them done at), I don't have to pay or help pay for them". Just hair and nails cost me like $160 in that wedding.

what ideas did you 'steal' from someone else's wedding?
I actually stole BSC friend's venue. They offered an incredible deal that gave you the most for your money (For $100 pp we got literally everything-including the DJ and photog-except for invites, favors, BP flowers and attire, and everything they had was awesome so we couldn't walk away from it).

List one faux pas that you commited and may not have known until afterwards:
We had a "B List". Which we knew was wrong, and I know it can never be truly justified, but pretty much our venue was charging us for 100 guests whether 100 people or just DH and I showed up that day. When about 25 people from DH's side said "no" (Leaving us at like 70 guests), my mom and grandma started asking other people, pretty much telling them the truth "We know it's short notice, we really aren't looking for gifts, but basically, there's going to be a dinner there whether somebody eats it or not, so if you're interested, you're more than welcome". My fam is actually pretty impromtu with parties, so despite the horror most people must be feeling right now, it actually went over really well, pretty much everybody said "Hey, fun night out? Hells yeah!".
