What is your cake budget?

I've figured about $350 for a cake for approximately 75 people. Is this realistic? Whats yours at? OR what did you pay?

That's about $4.50/slice + a little change.  I think that's do-able.  We were quoted prices ranging from around $3/slice all the way up to "what? are you baking gold into it? Is that an extra zero?" kind of prices.

Some bakeries will charge extra for a different shaped tier, or for different flavors or different fillings, or for delivery/set-up  just be sure to ask about any other fees that may apply.

We paid $4.25 or $4.50 and had about 200 servings.  We also had to pay a design fee for extra detail and time they spent decorating the cake.

I'm paying about $1.60 a slice, including delivery.  But I'm being very hands-off with the cake - all I asked for was that it feed 170, be 3 tiers, and have white icing and piping - so I think that has a lot to do with it.  I really don't know what it'll look like until that day, nor did I taste the cake.  Some of you will probably think I'm crazy, but cake wasn't my #1 priority.  I think your price-range is completely doable.

Most of the cakes I've priced seem to be around $4/slice. I'm hoping to find someone who can make me a cake for 100 people for less than $300 but we'll see what happens. I'm not picky about my cake...I just want it to taste good!

About $3 a slice in the Raleigh area was as cheap as I could find, and that is a very basic white cake with buttercream icing. So, sounds like your price range is about right. Unfortunately, we are having 300 at our wedding so it's gonna cost us!

Our cake is coming in around $4.50 a slice to feed about 140, that includes 2 flavors, real flowers, buttercream icing with simple detail, and our "anniversary tier" that won't be eaten at the wedding.  We're having our venue's onsite pastry chef bake ours, so that saves on delivery and we also don't have to pay a cutting fee.

Does your $350 need to include delivery and a cutting fee?  If not, then you're probably right on point for budget!

1.60 per slice...probably made with oleo and great value shortening instead of real butter.

Cutting fee, that was the one I couldn't think of.  I knew there was a fee I was missing.

We actually didn't get charged a cutting fee.  So check with your caterer.

And evidently I signed in with the wrong e-mail address yesterday, that other weirdo with the same avatar up there is me too.  That's what I get for having the same e-mail address at different domains and using the same password for many of my logins.  I'm surprised that's the first time I've done that.

We had 130 servings of cake for $260. That included delivery. We had a two tier cake and a sheet cake. Three different flavors.

I'm confused!  What is the cake cutting fee for?  Can't some family member just cut the cake or is this another part of the ceremony that I am missing?

They can. My mom cut ours and it was no big deal. She offered to do it. I think some venues have staff that'll serve it and plate it (including cut the cake) so you're getting charged with all of that.

The idea is to have someone kind of keep an eye on the cutting because otherwise guests would just go help themselves to the cake and instead of taking one piece, could end up taking 2-3 since some slices are smaller / larger than others.
