Spray Tan

I am thinking about going to a salaon and getting a spray tan for my wedding. I waited to long to do the beds and I burn anyways.
I am worried that it is going to come off on my dress, or it will start peeling away and I will look like a freak.
What should I do?

    If you've never done spray tanning before try it out before the wedding!!!  I am very fair skinned and don't tan much so I tried the spray tan and hated it.  I accidentally held my chin down so I had a lighter patch on my neck and the spray tan stunk really bad.  You can't shower for at least 12-18 hours to prevent rubbing the tan off and forget about shaving; you better take care of that before going to the tanning salon.  Worst of all: it does not rub off/fade off evenly.  I ended up taking apricot scrub and removing the tan three days later because it was getting patchy.

    Pale is beautiful :)  You will look tanner just by wearing the white dress.

    I think you will be ok getting one, but definitely practice a few times before the wedding because it takes some getting used to!

    A few tips to prevent some of the mishaps that michelle7102 mentioned:
    - shave and exfoliate WELL before going!!! this will remove the top layer of dead skin cells to give you an even layer of skiin to tan. it will help the tan to last longer, be more even, and fade more evenly.
    - do not use any oil-based shower gel, exfoliant, or lotion before getting your spray tan. it will act as a barrier and the tan will not soak into your skin.
    - use a light water-based lotion to moisturize your skin before getting your spray tan. dry skin absorbs more tanning solution and will cause uneven/dark patches if not evenly moisturised.
    - i would recommend getting the tan approx. 2 days before the wedding. the "spray tan smell" decreases over time and it will allow you time to fix any problem areas before the big day.

    It's really not that big of a deal once you do it a few times.  It takes some practice to get it right.  But yeah, I don't recommend you do it for the first time right before the wedding.  But you still have some time.


    You could also look into airbrushing--that is where a person sprays you so you get a nice even color, don't have to worry about being blotchy, etc.  However, I also recommend you still do a trial with airbrushing before the wedding also.

    This is funny because I just visited this board tonight to look for posts on this topic! I just got back from my first airbrush tan trial! My shower in on Sunday and I thought it would be a good time to test it out! So far, I like it already!

    Since I am pretty pasty, she just used the lightest formula on me. Just looks like I have been in the sun for a few days, nothing drastic!

    I will try to come back and post about it again in a day or so, once I get to shower and rinse to see the real results! Maybe even post a pic for ya!

    Def do the airbrush rather than the machine applied spray tan. Those make you more orangy and uneven in my experience! Good luck!

    I had a machine spray tan where you stand there and it was one that sprayed three times so you could do different poses to get it even. It turned out great but it rubbed on my clothing for two days and by the fourth day it started comming off in patches and looked awful. Not something i would want to worry about at the point I will be on my honeymoon. I have decided two mnths before the wedding I will tan twice a week which is what I always did for prom and homecomming and it looked great. More expensive in the long run but worth it.

    I've tried both "booth" spray tan as well as the "airbrush" kind where a person sprays you.  There is a huge difference, definitely go with the airbrush technique!  I did it for my wedding and my tan looked great, I got a lot of compliments on how beautiful my skin looked.  Also, it didn't come off on my dress at all.  I went on a Wednesday night before my Saturday wedding and my color looked great.

    I have done the spray tan many times in the past for work events (I am VERY Irish...:)) And it ALWAYS rubbed off on the inside of my clothes.  Even a day or 2 later, the inside of my bra would always have a brownish hue.  Plus-the spray tan definitely has a 'smell' to it.  I have tried different salons too-the smell is the same.  I've never done the airbrush thing, but I would ABSOLUTELY try both long before the wedding.  Then maybe wear a white outfit to try it out before your dress gets stained...  Maybe my skin just didn't absorb the product properly, but I'd just hate for you to wait til the last minute and then be really disappointed.  Good luck & CONGRATS on the wedding!!!     I did a trial airbursh tan this week just to see how I liked it, as I am in a similar situation as you, and I would never rec it to anyone! It looked okay for the first day, but then it got patchy- especially on my feet and hands. Yuck! To make matters worse, it did rub off on a white dress I wore 3 days later... to my bridal shower! I had brown marks all over my dress near by underarms! I would hate for that to happen to anyone's dress!

    And just for the record, it was from a reputable salon, done by a person, not a machine. Since I am so fair-skinned, she used the lightest formula possible... still did not look good, and in my opinion... a little too dark to look natural on me.

    I'm glad I saw this post! I was thinking about getting a spray tan before my wedding too (especially since it will be January & my summer skin will unfortunately be gone). I have never fake tanned in my life, so that's definitely not an option. I do, however, use this bottle tan called Loreal Sublime Bronze. It is seriously my beauty secret. No one knows that it is a fake tan & no one can tell that it's from a bottle. It doesn't make you orange in the slightest bit and it doesn't leave streaks. It fades evenly and it gives you a nice healthy glow from the start. After my shower, I put regular lotion all over my body to moisturize, then I put the Sublime Bronze all over (face, arms, chest, legs) and by the next morning I have a nice color. I would consider trying it! I get it at Target!
