the falls

Considering an outdoor ceremony followed by reception at The Falls just over the river in IL.  Does anyone have any first hand experience/knowledge about this venue as it seems I will need to make my decision before I can tour and everything is back in bloom!  Also, open to other suggestions in the St. Louis area.  Looked at Botanical Gardens, but a little pricy and not very accommodating.

About once a month, on Wednesdays they have a dinner thing you can go to. You pay $30 and eat their food and check the place out and of course they have people there you can speak with. I went, and here is my thoughts. First, I take issue with inviting tons of people to taste test food and hoping everybody will like it. It was buffet and they allow you to eat when they call your table. We were the last table. I paid $30 to eat food that by that time was several hours old. Looked and tasted that old too. Not much in regards to flavor.

Secondly, I just felt like I was literally going through a buffet. Nobody there cares about "my" wedding. They just do this for all of these people. I would not had served any of that food at my own wedding so it turned me off.

Beautiful looking place. The food is sub par though. To me, it is just a way to make some money on a night when you are not booked. It certainly would be my last choice.
    Married at last!!

What pp was mentioning is called the "Taste of the Falls."  I've never been to a tasting, but I did go to a bridal show there during the summer to scope out the location.  One thing to keep in mind is that the outdoor ceremony locations do look as pretty as in the pics advertised- BUT right next door to The Falls is a big card dealership.  And what you can't see from their pics is that you can also see the dealership from the ceremony site- all the cars, the lights, everything. Just something to keep in mind.  If you're still considering it, then I would definitely tour it now and not wait for flowers to be in bloom.

I looked into the falls as well but they were not very interested in me! Never returned either of my phone calls! So...we looked elsewhere.

My finacee and I booked at Caroline Vineyards in Washington, MO. You have the option to have an outdoor ceremony OR get married in Riverbend Chapel at the vineyard and use the outdoors for your h'ors d'oeuvres which is complimentary!

You might be interested in them. Toni Backs is the contact name and she is very good at getting back to you!

Best of luck! I hope you find a wonderful place!!!
