We went to Sandels Grande in St. Lucia for our honeymoon. It was amazing! A very beautiful island! We went ziplining through the rainforest, and rode ATVs on the beach. Our misfortune occurred the day before we left. The island was stuck by Hurricane Tomas, which caused major destruction. We could not fly out the next day. It was 4 days later before we could leave. We ran on generators for 3 days, and we were very fortunate to have water. Most of the island lost power and water. We had a well on site for the resort. The staff at Sandals made sure all of our needs were provided for throughout the extra days, and I cannot commend them enough. We did have to pay for a flight out of the small airport, and for 2 nights stay. They gave us one night for free. Yes, we tried to have them compensate us, but they told us that they would be happy to find us another place to stay. Corporate office would not allow for more than 1 night free!
I didn't want to leave the resort, because that meant we would have to find food and drinks on our own. They will be getting a letter about that in a few days. The one thing I cannot stress enough is if you are traveling overseas,
buy trip insurance. It was our saving grace. We will get reimbursed for practically everything.
