First meeting with the priest today!

Fiance and I were pretty nervous (not knowing what to expect) but everything went well and I'm so happy we chose the Father we did. A couple of questions I wanted to ask on here:

For pre-cana my church offers:
Twogether in Love Program
OR
Engaged Encounter

I'm a little familiar with Engaged Encounter, but would love to hear what people recommend and what they chose?

Also, we briefly discussed price, and I was wondering how much is appropriate to tip the priest? It's about $300 to rent the church, then $200 for music, another $200 for cantor, $200 for wedding coordinator, and then tips for the alter boys. Is it appropriate to tip the priest something in the $200 range? We also plan to invite him to our reception as well. I just want to make sure I budget correctly because obviously he's an important part of our day and I don't want to offend him!!

I think $200 for the priest is generally plenty.  Our priest was a family friend.  We gave him $100 and a nice bottle of wine.

I have heard some people say that their priests weren't able to keep any cash and would have to give it over to their parish.  If you aren't comfortable asking the priest directly, you might talk to the ceremony coordinator or the parish secretary.

    Yay for the first meeting!

We were required to the EE weekend.

And yes somewhere between $150-200 is fine for tipping the priest. I think $200 was also "highly recommended" or something like that for the church we were married in.

    Congratulations!

I'd go with the marriage prep that fits your schedule.  If getting a whole weekend off won't work, don't do EE.  Likewise, if you work late during the week or you and FI live far apart from each other, EE might be better.

We gave our officiants (a priest and a bishop) gift cards.  (We also made a donation to the church on top of its fees.)  I have heard the same thing that they must donate cash gifts right back to the church.  H's uncle took the gift card and used it to buy stuff for his favorite charity.  I did not ask my parish priest what he did with his.
