flowers for mothers?

Are you getting corsages for your mothers?  Is this still done?  I don't see much mentioned about this, so I'm hoping it's something I can skip.

Re: flowers for mothers?

  • I'ts about half and half... Lots of Moms opt out these days... I think it is good to do it anyway...or at least hand them a nice rose or something...Moms do matter a lot!
  • My MIL opted for a feminine boutonniere since she doesn't like wrist corsages.

That would still be a corsage, just a pin on.

A boutonniere is the flower a man wears (usually a single stem with some filler and/or leaves), a corsage is the flower a woman wears (sometimes more than one flower but not always, usually includes some filler and ribbon).

Corsages can be worn on the wrist, pinned on clothing (usually at the shoulder but I've seen them at the waist or hip too), or pinned to a purse.
  • Ask your Mother and your FMIL what they prefer.  Some women may not want anything while others may want a small nosegay or a corsage to pin onto a clutch purse.  There are many options but it is always a nice gesture to provide them with something.

  • The mothers should definately have flowers, if it's a traditional wedding, whether it be a shoulder corsage, wristlet or attached to the purse.  Bunches Bob

  • Ask your mothers what they like. They definitely dont HAVE to have flowers (as our vendor friend suggested). My mother hates corsages of any kind and asked to carry a single rose, so that is what we did. But if they are ok with carrying nothing, that is OK too.

  • Most mom's do so much running around and helping with the wedding party, they often get in the way.  You should ask if they want one??
