Beyond annoyed with our hotel

The hotel where we booked the bridal suite, our parent's rooms, and some family and guests have booked rooms there as well is right next door (about a 2 min walk) away from our venue. They've been nothing but difficult to work with since we first booked them and I've almost pulled our reservations a few times, but they are right next door to the venue, so I figured we'd just deal with it. This is also the hotel that wanted to charge me $800 for a shuttle to bring us down the street to and from the reception venue, I told them they were crazy and did NOT book the shuttle (I'd have no problem walking, but I was concerned about what if it rains).

Today, my mom and FI's dad got a call that they were canceling all of our reservations including the bridal suite.  I guess the hotel got overbooked and they decided that we were the ones they were going to bump.  My mom and FI's dad have been arguing with them all night. They said that they didn't know that we were a bridal party or they never would have bumped us. I don't believe that, they were told at least 2-3 times that we were a bridal party, and FI and I went there in person this summer to confirm that everything was all set.

I'll be back in my hometown tomorrow and I'll be going there myself to meet with a manager to rip them a new one.  I haven't gone bridezilla yet, but this one could send me over the edge!

For the local people, the hotel is the Gideon Putnam in Saratoga.

  • I say... eat them alive. If you have any stress that you need to get out now would be the time to unload :-). Then go find somewhere a hell of a lot nicer to stay that appreciates your money.

  • This is supposively the most exclusive hotel in Saratoga Springs, NY.  I think it's BS!  They will be dealing with one angry bride, MOB, and MOG tomorrow!!!

  • FI and I were thinking about going to Saratoga for NYE and the Gideon Putnam was one of the hotels on my list.  They're crossed off!

    I'm so sorry that you have to deal with this so close to the wedding.  Good luck tomorrow!!  Definitely show them your bridezilla side!

  • They didn't know you were a bridal party?  First that shouldn't matter, if they did their jobs properly they wouldn't have overbooked.  Secondly, what the heck did they think you needed a shuttle for?!
    I'd be livid.  I'm sorry that's going on, they SUCK!

  • That is BEYOND horrible. I would tear them a new one. Did you get the name of the person who originally booked you and the WP? If so, I would want their head on a platter, like, yesterday.  Good luck. :(

  • I don't think annoyed is the word for it.  I hope they fix this for you.  I would go bridezilla on them too.  I would make sure that all of the customers that were there heard me too.  I would bring any documents that you have from them with you.  Another thing to do is have a friend call to inquire about reserving several rooms and have them ask about their overbooking policy.  Use this information against them!! 

    If in the end they don't rebook your rooms, make sure to get your $ back in full and post on every website you can your reviews including facebook, yelp, TripAdvisor...everywhere.  Especially places where they can't remove the review.

    This is what I would do!!  I may even do this after the wedding if it does get resolved (although acknowleding that it was resolved).  Because even if they do end up resolving it, this is not something I imagine any bride wants to go through.  I can't believe they're putting you through this much stress so close to the wedding!  I agree, bring all your documents, emails, etc. that you have with them.  Good luck and please let us know how it goes!

  • So sorry that someone else is having to go through last minute hotel crap too!  We found out this week (3 weeks pre-wedding) that our wedding block was both booked incorrectly and not released on the agreed-upon date AND the suite that I had toured in person with the event planner and told her to go ahead and book for us was... you guessed it... not booked.  So as of now bridal party has nowhere to get ready and FI & I have nowhere to lay our heads on wedding night.  I am very much not bridezilla but I am thinking about becoming one just for an hour or so.  BTW if anyone reading is considering the Marriott Renaissance in Raleigh NC, please pick something else.  It is a beautiful hotel but the horrible customer service is not worth it.
